S-SO LATE. SORRY. ;A; salylimon October 30 2010, 08:37:00 UTC
She had been lost in though, mind going over the names of important figures in Latin America during the twentieth century. Right, she totally had this. Camilo Cienfuegos, Carlos Prats, The Tupamaros...

Right, she totally had this.

Absently, she connected their names to revolutions, civil wars, and socio-political movements as she continued walking, eyes scanning for an isolated table where she could study at. Tired or not, Emi knew that she had to get through this day of studying with little to no interruptions. That's all she was asking for, really. No interruptions to make her day of seclusion and studying completely worth it.

Of course, she should have figured that that was going to be an impossible dream.

At the sound of a strained squeak and an accompanying creak, she paused mid-step, bewildered. Turning her head right, her eyes suddenly widened as she caught sight of a student straining to...h-hold up a bookshelf?

O-OH GOD.

Hastily scanning for anyone near enough to help, she instantly spotted a nearby male student. Tall. Looks like he works out.

A jock.

Perfect.

Hurrying forward, Emi grabbed hold of the man's arm and dragged the spluttering student towards the blond in distress. "H-Help me before he hurts himself!" Emi snapped as the taller of the two opened his mouth to complain. With a choked noise of surprise, the two eased the shelf back into place before the jock shot the two a disbelieving look and immediately left, leaving Emi standing awkwardly with the lanky youth.

...fantastic.

"A-ah..." he choked out nervously. His gaze remained locked on the stock carpet floor, fingers fiddling absently on the ends of his hair draped over his shoulder. His eyes darted up once to glance at the face of the lady next to him, caught the uncomfortable expression, and quickly fell to the ground again.

Only here for fifteen minutes and already he had done something horrible.

"Th-thank you," he started again anxiously, fingers pulling on his hair just a touch harder, "I-I sorry for m-make problem, n-not mean be tro...treble. Is not meaning."

Seeing the distress beginning to settle in the tall teen's expression, Emi held up her hands quickly, smile strained yet hopefully reassuring. "N-No, no! It's fine-" Well, probably not. Honestly, who in their right mind would manage to almost knock over a large library shelf like that?

Waving that thought away, Emi's brow furrowed somewhat at the heavy accent before glancing up at the way the strange teen was tugging at his hair. "A-Are you okay, by the way-?"

He frowned slightly at the word 'okay', not knowing the meaning of it. But he nodded anyway, knowing it was better to reassure her than be bothersome with questions. She looked tired enough as it was, so she was perhaps more studious than the other sleeping students he'd seen lounging around.

"A-am sorry," he stammered again anxiously, "Rafturi not finish and so fall--"
He gestured uselessly and shot her a helpless smile, hoping that the point got across.

"D-dar yes, am sorry--not want bother, so I...I go now."

"Rafturi?" Emi repeated, her expression becoming one of confusion as she eyed the lanky youth in front of her. Accented English. Fairly thick accent, too. He seemed nervous, flustered, unsure. Transfer student, perhaps?

"¿Cual lenguaje es eso?" She blurted out before pausing, suddenly sheepish. "A-Ah, sorry. I mean, it's fine, really! It wasn't your fault s-so you don't have to leave! Es que..." She paused once more, teeth digging into her bottom lip. "Are you a transfer student-? What language is that? Rafturi, what does-?"

Ah, right. Maybe she shouldn't be interrogating the poor man when he seemed ready to bolt and get away from her. Which, in all honesty, was a bit rude but considering the circumstances, Emi couldn't blame him. So, shooting a quick, albeit wary, glance at the bookshelf, she offered the teen a quick if embarrassed smile. "I'm sorry. I-I'm being rude, I'll let you get back to your, ah, w-whatever it is that you were doing."

He noted absently that she was pretty when she smiled, the thought occurring to him while he was slightly dazed by her rapid-fire line of questions. It was a nice surprise, considering he'd thought she'd be the homely-but-friendly type underneath (or perhaps because of) her air of exhaustion.

Still, he was thankful for her assistance and returned her embarrassed smile with a nervous shuffle, glancing around for the appropriate spot to replace the book he held. (In the end, he decided to just return it at the front desk and avoid further temptation of fate.)

"D-da, ah...thank you," he murmured softly, mindful of the library's rule of quiet, "Thank you for help."

Tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear, Emi gave a sheepish shrug in response. "You're welcome," she said as she adjusted her bag carefully before extending her hand towards the man in front of him.

"My name's Emiliana, by the way. Emiliana de León. If you, ah, ever need help getting used to the university, I'm usually hanging around the library or near the International Relations, Spanish, and Chicano Studies departments." A pause. "But mostly the library, really," Emi admitted with a flustered laugh.

He'd never be able to get over the casual culture of manners here in the States. He restrained himself from bristling as the woman in front of him introduced herself with her full name. No manners. And then she insisted on telling him exactly where she could be found at any time. Exactly what sort of impression was she trying to make?

He brushed it off, reminded himself where he was, remembered that he himself certainly did have to be so rude, and continued to smile through the rest of Emiliana de León's introduction.

"Sollomovici." he said simply, giving a slight bow of his head, "Îmi pare bine să vă cunosc, domnişoară de León."

Her brow furrowed slightly at the sudden onslaught of Romanian.

Cunosc?

Conocer. Conozco. Conoció. Bine? Bueno. Bien. Good. Romanian? Romance language. Latin based. Not...too difficult to get the gist of once the brief moment of confusion vanished. Granted, knowing this could only get her so far if Emi made sure to pay close attention. However, she couldn't help but feel somewhat slighted as the man in front of her ignored her extended hand. While his slight bow was reminiscent of how she was normally greeted by the opposite sex whenever she was in Mexico, she still had to do her part by offering a handshake in greeting, so why-

Emi inwardly shrugged it off before responding lightly, "Es un placer conocerte también." Her eyes flickered towards the bookshelf beside them. "If it's okay, I really should go. I have papers to grade and some studying of my own to do. Perdón, y, ah, adios, " she offered him another, now apologetic smile, before hurrying away.

Now, if she was lucky, Emi would be able to get to her usual spot without having to manhandle someone away search the library for another vacant and isolated table.
