Shirt thrown unceremoniously over his shoulder, Sadiq ambled leisurely down the sidewalk, making his way back to the apartment complex in which he resided. Fall was just around the corner, so he had been making sure to spend his days exercising before it turned time to hibernate for the winter; this was mostly so it wouldn't matter as much when he did gain those ten extra pounds when snow fell. The man was in the process of pulling his shirt back on when a pair of feet caught his attention just up the sidewalk. It reminded him of that witch from the Wizard of Oz ( ... )

Gupta jumped with surprise and slipped out of the bush with an 'oof', landing solidly on his behind. He happened to drag the snake out with him and it clung to his right hand, just as surprised as he was. Blinking, the boy looked up... and up... and up some more, then squinted against the glare of the sun to stare at the large, tanned man.

He didn't immediately understand anything that the man said --that wasn't proper English by any means, and Gupta still wasn't all that fluent. Eventually, figuring that the man was just saying hi, the Egyptian smiled a little and waved. He held up the snake up as if offering it for the Turk to touch, despite the fact that he was still sitting on the middle of the sidewalk.

"Friend?" That was a question for both the Turk and the snake.

The expression on Sadiq's face imitated Gupta's baffled one as they gazed at one another -- one who was sitting on the ground, neck craned up to see who the unexpected company was, and the other looming over him. His shadow practically blanketed the guy. The silence seemed to drag to the point that it was turning awkward and uncomfortable, though Sadiq wasn't one to show discomfort of this sort. Instead he shifted his weight to the other foot and opened his mouth to just inquire and get out, but somehow the other got to it first.

He noted the word 'friend' first, and really did try not to express how incredulous he felt (Were friends already? Just how.). It was hard not to think that you're dealing with an odd person when they're wiggling around in bushes, landing on their ass when you approach... His gaze finally lowered further, and Sadiq blinked twice at the amphibian being held up towards his person. As always, it took a few seconds to digest this piece of information before he registered the horrible truth in front of him. And ( ... )

Gupta was not understanding that English. He jumped when Sadiq began to flail and held the small snake close to his chest, as if that alone would protect it from the big, loud man. The Egyptian frowned, clearly getting a sense that the Turk was unhappy about the situation but not quite sure why.

With his free hand, the boy picked himself up and began to pluck leaves and sticks out of his hair. He watched Sadiq with furrowed eyebrows, as if he was the one that was crazy for reacting in such a way.

"Not roadkill," the boy said shortly, frowning. He plucked one last leaf from his hair and dropped it back into the bush, then looked down and lifted the snake up to his face so he could admire its beautiful scales. The animal seemed to have calmed down after being grabbed and stared back at him with a steady, unflinching gaze. "It's pretty."
