Who: Atthis and Berwald
Where: Athiss' soap store
When: Monday afternoon, May 3rd.
What: This is not the hardware store Berwald was looking for
It had been a long day. They'd had a special spring sale going on, which meant customers crowding the furniture store and buying stuff which was great for the store but left the staff rather harried. Berwald had almost moved down a petite sales clerk by accident while moving a sofa, and she'd given him a very rude glare, which had made him feel even worse about almost hitting her, so bad he'd only realized afterwards he'd even forgotten to apologise.
And then he'd got home where he'd been asked to take out Flower Egg...and while he was at it could he go by the market and get a few things? Berwald had wanted to say no and go collapse in bed. But it had been Tino asking him and...why was he so bad at saying no, especially to him?
Berwald sighed, carrying one of those stupid American shopping bags in his arms (usually he'd have his handy Ikea bag with him but obviously that night he'd forgotten to take it) and Flower Egg's leash tied around his wrist, so that every time the small dog tried to bounce into a random direction Berwald was in danger of spilling his shopping bag. And it was starting to rain.
Then he remembered he'd forgotten to buy the new lock for the bathroom to replace the one he'd broken to get Tino out from there...damn. It was so awkward not only to have no lock but also a gaping hole in the bathroom door.
He frowned furiously for a moment at this new epiphany, and then recalled a small hardware store, only a bit away from where he was currently walking. Berwald was pretty sure he'd seen some locks there last he visited, even if that was a while ago.
Feeling slightly less disappointed with life, he headed in that direction, tugging Flower Egg after himself like an ocean liner might pull a small boat. When they neared the store, Berwald looked down at the dog, and then up and down the street. It looked...well, rather pleasant, but he was leery to leave the small animal alone. Oh well, he'd visited this store with Flower Egg before, and the owner had said it was fine to let her in, as long as she behaved. Was the store open this late though? Berwald squinted at the shop front, with his glasses already fogged from the rain. Well, if the door was open the shop was probably too, right? He pulled open the door, frowning slightly at the pleasant tinkle of the wind chime sounding out as he did. That was new...and it also smelled a lot nicer...wait a minute.
He might be half blind with his fogged up glasses, but the colours and smells were nothing like the dusty old hardware store Berwald recalled...
