Name: Jolyon (Lyon) Hagan Waite
Gender: Male
Age came to Orphanage: 3
Age Now: 24
Appearance: Pale skin, lightly freckled, down-colored hair to ears, slight roman nose, heterochromatic eyes- one blue, one honey-brown, slender limbs, small moustache, angular face, average height (about 5’7”), lightweight boxing body
Personality: Very tenderhearted. Would find homes for all the orphans if he could. As he cannot, however, tries to make their lives a bit less miserable. Arranges for earlier shipments from the grocers that deliver the food so it’s fresher when it arrives (even if it can’t and doesn’t stay that way very long) rather than already putrid. Helps distract staff if he can from mayhem or other problems some of the orphans cause. Softspoken, but every once in a while he will actively stand up to/for someone and not back down easily. Doesn’t talk very much when the other staff is around. To the few children who actually get to know him, though, acts like a big brother; loves telling them stories and joining their games, even though he rarely has a chance to. Especially sweet to the new arrivals and younger children, knowing exactly what they’re going through.
History: His biological mother was forced to give him up due to the scandal of his birth- He was not the sun of her husband, but rather of her lover. She left him at the orphanage when it looked like the family was going to find out his real father. One of the very few adopted. He was adopted by a middle-upper class family at age 6. They had no children of their own. They donated some money to the orphanage for a while before realizing it just went into the pockets of the staff. After that, they took to organizing clothing donations to at least help keep the orphans warmer. Took a job at the orphanage after dropping out of university to try to help turn it around even a little bit. Has worked at the orphanage for about two years as Mr. Milinger’s secretary.
Strengths: Shorthand note-taking, good echoic (sound) memory, story-telling
Weaknesses: terrified of losing his job because of his kindnesses to the orphans, awful at lying, can’t stand to see a youngling crying
Orientation: gay, though very heavily closeted, especially after the trials of Oscar Wilde.
Other: Secretary for Mr. Millinger. Did a bit of lightweight boxing in school.
