Fire Emblem-- Ike/Soren

To know (highlight for spoilers): Soren is the fallen prince of Daein in the game, he never reclaims the throne. Lars and Soren are both magic users. It's not quite crack because Ilyana really WOULD eat someone's foot.

Angst
"All the wind, all the fire, can't bring you back."

AU
Ike realized that the Prince of Daein was truly beautiful.

Crack!fic
"Ilyana really did eat my foot."

Crossover (Aveyond I: Rhen's Quest)
When Lars met Soren, even Rhen knew Soren would win.

First Time
Soren had never trusted anyone this much before.

Fluff
"I trust you." Three words, whispered gently. Their love, defined.

Humor
"Ike! You don't have to protect me from the foliage!"

Hurt/Comfort
Ike is Soren's world, even when Soren can't be Ike's.

Smut
Soren was small, but he was a demon in bed.

UST
In battle, Ike took Soren's hand, and their eyes met.

Fire Emblem -- Naesala/Reyson

To know: Naesala and Reyson were old friends, once. Nae is a Crow (dark) and Rey is a Heron (light). Naesala sold Reyson into slavery. I see them as having a violent relationship, most of the time.

Angst
Time couldn't erase Reyson's pain of being sold into slavery.

AU
The Angels' Prince was powerless to resist the Demon King.

Crack!fic
This Crow had found the shiny to end all shinies.

Crossover (The Vision of Escaflowne)
Cursed though they were, their white wings unfurled to dawnbreak.

First Time
In the dust, roughly and violently, Naesala stole Reyson's purity.

Fluff
When Reyson sang, Naesala remembered why he loved him so.

Humor
"Naesala! Give me back my clothes, you theiving crow!"

Hurt/Comfort
At night, Reyson would remember. Naesala couldn't protect him.

Smut
Reyson arched his back as Naesala stroked his feathers.

UST
While Reyson slept, Naesala fought to keep from hurting him.

Final Fantasy VII-- Sephiroth/Cloud

To Know: I love Seph on bottom, a lot. And there's a long story behind that dress... The "she" referenced is Celes, Sephiroth's sane FF6 counterpart.

Angst
There'd been a time when Cloud was innocent of him.

AU
It started with a trip to a chocobo farm...

Crack!fic
The dress really did flatter Sephiroth's figure.

Crossover (Final Fantasy VI)
Sephiroth knew she was everything he wasn't-- she lived.

First Time
Had it been under better circumstances. Cloud would have topped.

Fluff
To Sephiroth, Cloud was the sun after a storm.

Humor
"Why are there stuffed chocobos all over my office?"

Hurt/Comfort
When Jenova screamed, Cloud could only hold Sephiroth closer.

Smut
Sephiroth cried out as Cloud drove him to madness's edge.

UST
Cloud brushed Sephiroth's hair away, their eyes caught.

Aveyond I: Rhen's Quest (Rhen/Lars)

To Know: Rhen is Lars' former slave. She is a princess, though she doesn't know at first. Militant Squirrels actually exist in the game. Rhen and Ike are both sword users. Rhen/Lars is the FANON favorite, not canon. Though they really do make more sense than the canon pairing (Rhen/Damien).

Angst
Sometimes he's right, she's nothing but his slave.

AU
"Princess Rhen and Lord Lars will make a lovely couple."

Crack!fic
"Lars... did you loose to the militant squirrels again?"

Crossover (Fire Emblem)
Rhen was better than Ike, but only just barely.

First Time
Finally, Lars realized he didn't have to keep fighting her.

Fluff
"You've enslaved my heart, Rhen. I'm yours."

Humor
Even tag-teaming it, they still lost to the squirrels.

Hurt/Comfort
When Rhen couldn't go on, he would carry her.

Smut
Lars willing surrendered all power to her control.

UST
When she glared at him, Lars could feel fire within

finem posted the prompt for ffwriters_anon , so, even though you can read them over there, I am now placing them here for my archival purposes.

Prompt:
Find a piece of fanart(or original art) that you like. Look the picture over carefully for just a minute and write about it for at least 10 minutes. post the image(or a link to it) and story here ^__^

1) Be My Starlight (Final Fantasy VI, Locke/Rachel)
Artwork: "Forever Rachel" by Lockea Stone (I drew it on my lunch break and scanned it using a crappy scanner, so forgive the roughness)

She was life. More than life itself. She was sunshine when it rained and flowers in the snow. When she laughed, the whole world laughed alongside her, such was her joy. And she was Locke’s. Rachel. Loved by the Goddesses.

“I’ll be your Maria.” She’d said to him when they were teenagers, just waiting for roses to bloom on the edge of Kholingen, near the old eccentrics house. “You be my Starlight.” Then she’d laughed and danced away, singing a few bars of the famous Aria of Two Halves.

That same Aria his beloved Celes would sing, in front of a full house of the world’s richest, in order to lure out the thief of hearts, Setzer not even ten years later. Celes was a devious one, not at all like his Rachel. When Rachel sang, it was with the faltering purity of enthusiasm. When Celes sang, it was calculated, yet heartfelt.

Time was so fleeting. When Locke and Rachel were teenagers, the world was laid out before them, with a new adventure every single day to look forward to. “I’ll be your Maria.” She’d told him. “You be my Draco. You be my Starlight.”

The day the world ended the first time started out like any other. “What adventure are we going on today, Locke?” Rachel had teased, even as she lifted her skirt, grabbed his hand, and pulled him out of town, past her scowling father who merely glared at the two. Rache’s dad had never really liked Locke. It was a miracle they’d ever gotten him to agree to their marriage.

“Whatever one comes our way.” He’d teased back. “Come, come, Rachel. Let’s not waste a fleeting moment.” And dancing so he did he led her to the cave, where they’d often explored for treasure.

“I’ll go first!” She had cried, breaking his hands and running towards the first drawbridge. “What treasure are we looking for?”

But Locke had paused, a second too long, a second too late. He reached out to grab her, to hold her back and remind her to be careful in these caves. To tell her that he loved her.

It was too late. She missed the signs. The bridge creaked and cracked and broke under her. “Locke!” She screamed to him, reach up to try and grab him. Locke was too far away, and the fall too long.

“Rachel!” She fell into the darkness.

I’m the darkness
You’re the stars
our love is brighter than the sun.
For eternity, for me there can be,
Only you my chosen one.
Must I forget you? Our solemn promise?
Will autumn take the place of spring?
What shall I do? I'm lost without you.
Speak to me once more!

“You did this!” It was Rachel’s father’s accusation, as his daughter sat unmoving on the bed. “You are the reason she doesn’t remember anyone anymore. If you hadn’t taken her with you, she would be able to remember us right now!”

Locke backed up, fear and anguish playing across his face. His Rachel, his beloved Rachel. “No, I tried to stop her. I did! I would never have let anything hurt her, I swear!”

“But you did! Now she’s hurt!” Absolutely livid, her father grabbed him by his collar used it to jerk him towards the door, tossing him through it with all the ease of a child throwing her doll. Curiously, Rachel stood and followed him. “Get out! Don’t come here every again! You’re a no good thief with no place in this town! So leave, and never come back!”

“But!” He started to protest, but the sound of Rachel’s voice stopped him.

“Please leave. I don’t know who you are, but my parents don’t want you around. It may be best for you to just go.”

It was as though years of friendship and romance, of singing and dancing and exploring and just loving each other so much it hurt to breath, had never happened.

So Locke left. He had no one in Kholingen worth staying for. As the roses bloomed on the edge of town, Locke packed his bags and headed east for Figaro Castle. To Edgar, to Celes, to the adventure he’d waited his whole life for.

Love was fleeting. And the world had changed in a second.

“I’ll be your Maria. In my darkness, I’ll wait right here for you to come and get me. You be my Draco. Never give up on me. You be my Starlight.”

But the darkness had swallowed Rachel up in it.

~Comment: The lyrics are from Maria's Aria, which is what the whole story continually refer to. The Black Mages did an awesome Symphonic Rock version of it called "Darkness and Starlight" which is what helped inspire this piece.

2) Sacrifice (Fire Emblem, Rajaion centric)
Artworks: "Acceptance" by Keiiii and "Throe" by Keiiii

What did it mean, for someone to make a sacrifice? Rajaion was beginning to understand the true meaning of the words.

“Just a potion.” The king had said. “And then I’ll let your sister and your nephew go free.”

Yet, even Rajaion, crown prince of Goldoa, knew that the Daein King’s words were false. Though Almedha and her son were already poised to go (To Galiea, to King Cainhagis’s domain), Rajaion knew that once he was prisoner in their place, the King could very easily repeal his promise, leaving all of them as his prisoners.

He hesitated, just minutely enough for the Mad King to see it and grin. That sinister and cruel smile with which he had so calmly demanded Rajaion’s life in exchange for Almedha’s son’s life. “Having second thoughts?” He taunted, and the Dragon Prince withdrew to full height, hiding any sense of doubt beneath the cold exterior his kind were most known for. “It’s not too late for you to fly away home to your family, and leave your sister here. I have no use for her, or that Branded brat she’s born, so they’ll have to go, of course, but it’s really no loss to me. After all,” and his twisted grin grew as he spoke, drawing closer to Rajaion. But the prince refused to back away. “I can only gain from this encounter. Beautiful prince. Beautiful dragon. You’ll make a fine pet indeed.”

“I will bite off your head if you try to tame me!” Indignant, and not just a little bit proud, Rajaion tossed his head back and returned the glare full force at the towering man before him. Rajaion was not a full-grown dragon yet, and he retained the slenderness of his youth, he wouldn’t be the same size as the king for another couple hundred years. If he even lived that long, after this.

The king merely continued to smile. “I would not be so sure of that, prince. Now, if you want to free your sister, you’d best drink the potion. It’s all you have to do, and then they go free.”

Rajaion cast another glance into the goblet. The eerie liquid glowed faintly red, like bright wine. He didn’t know what, exactly, it was, but he knew that he would not be leaving here. Whether the king wanted him dead or simply drugged, Rajaion was unsure, but he knew one thing-he would do it for his sister’s sake.

With one deep breath, he closed his eyes, lifted the chalice to his lips, and swallowed.

Fire burst through him, running along his veins and to the tips of his fingers. The pain was immense, fracturing and splintering into his heart, down his spine, filling his gaze with the bright red of pain. “What did you-“ He choked, his throat burning as his mind began to falter. Words failed him. He tried to form a coherent thought and struggled through the haze of pain.

“Congratulations.” He heard the kings footsteps from what felt like miles away, near his head (when had he fallen to the ground?) as he writhed in the throes of the potion’s grasp. “I’ll keep my word, and you’ll keep yours.”

“What-“ He tried again, as he choked.

Fractures.
As glass shattering.
Fall to pieces.

“Your mind will be destroyed. Only your instincts as a beast will remain. You’ll turn into your dragon form and never turn back. You’ll be no more intelligent than my wyverns. You’ll be my mount, my pet. And how the world will bow when they realize that the Dragon Prince is my loyal beast!”

No! He wanted to cry out, but the pain was changing as he felt his hands unwillingly begin turning to claws. He was losing control of his form! Goldoa will not stand for this!

Yet, even so, he recalled his last thoughts, as he lay there on the floor of the king’s antechamber, being not about Goldoa or his sister and nephew. He recalled his last thoughts being of a smile that could change the world. I’m so sorry Ena… his mind whispered, before human consciousness deserted him at last.

~Comments: I love Rajaion. Until FE10 came out, I refused to believe he had died. I even wrote a few chapters of a fanfic where he was still alive. It just sucked way too much-- to have been so cruelly treated... :( Yes, I'm well aware of the fact that I like seriously obscure characters.

Okay! Well!

I promised poetry. I was working on The Sound of a Heart Breaking and one of the cool things about the story is that Riku uses poetry to sort out his thoughts. He's not supposed to be some grand poet, or anything, but writing it through him has reminded me that I do love wordplay and obscure imagery so deeply.

Part of chapter ten goes back and tells Riku's story, and in particular details why and how he came to write poetry as a way to express his emotions. In fact, the poem below is supposed to be his first poem, written as a way to cope with the realization that he was never ready for the consequences of becoming an adult under Helotian Law, and that realization has shattered his world.

Taken

The sun sets on my desire
Within it all my life require
I am no more than I am not
Yet all I’ve lost and all I’ve got
For them to take
And them to break

Am I not of my own worth
Not my home, not my hearth
Lost among a sea of sand
Torn apart by reaching hand
Passing by this age-old right
Slave to them, slave to night

This pain I feel will leave it’s mark
While I lie unsleeping in the dark
Do I matter anymore
When to them I’m but a whore
Where do we gain this foolish notion
That we are human, we feel emotion

Born to life with my hands restrained
All my thoughts, my words enchained
When I stand beneath the moon
I know that daybreak comes too soon
Is this voice my illusion
Is this truth my conclusion

Can I fight a battle I’m losing
And find a love of my own choosing
To break the hearts and lose the sea
Divide and seek the pain by memory
Reject the lies and quell the storm
Embrace my fears, make it my norm

Give me back my innocence
Give me time for a defense
But all I’ve lost, with nothing shown
And now I reap what I have sown
When did I think that I could win
Beyond it all, that’s my sin

I lost my faith in human kind
Close my eyes, now I’m blind
I can take your derisions
You can take all my visions
My human heart, I will suppress
I'm nothing more than nothing less

*Scoots away*
And on that wonderfully cheerful note, I must go pack! I need to be out of my room by noon on Thursday, which means tons of work to do! I'll be sure to post the New Dorm Report when I return and see who I will be rooming with. Here's to hoping it's someone as awesome as my amazing, soon to be old roommate. :)
