Hi everyone,
This another picture of that THING I am knitting. It's just a big rectangle of lovely candy colors right now, I'm not sure what it's gonna be. I just wanted to start knitting with this Noro Kureyon yarn to see how it would come out. I have heard such cool things about how great the color blends are. Gawd, but check out that bright green! geez (thats the start of the second color) I think I might make a wild purse or a car cover or something ;)
I am using size 6 needles (call me crazy) and casted on 60 stitches. So far it measures 10" x 14" Hey! that's a standard frame size? Maybe I should stop now and just mat and frame it? ---- I'm kidding.
I finished Kip's scarf last night. Rememeber the first one I made him was too short? Well, this one is 64" long and 5-1/2" wide...and after blocking it, I am sure it will grow to be maybe 64 feet long and 5-1/2 yards wide. :)
It took 4 ummmm "somethings" of yarn total ((balls?)) giggle---That doesn't sound right, but it's not skeins...Oh well, it took 2 of Schachenmayr Nomotta EgoTweed Color 83 and 2 of Lana Grossa "Soffice" Color 001.
The part that kinda bugs me is where the new ball of yarn started ---it left such a drastic color change. (the picture kinda hides it) That's prolly a rookie mistake, and now I think I was probably supposed to just reel off a bunch of the second ball of yarn until I got to a color that matched (or flowed) better.
I knitted it using the ((boring)) garter stitch, but actually the nice subtle color changes and combining it with another yarn helped keep my interest. After starting this scarf ---which is only my 4th finished knitted "thang" I have finally mastered a better casting on method. You can see I didn't have that mastered when I started this scarf.
Kip loves it...it's finally longer and he even wore it all day today out in his studio.
At lunch today I started ANOTHER scarf. I know...I need to learn how to make something different huh. This time I used the basic k2, p2. (knit 2, purl 2) to get the rib effect. Gawd I am such a beginner. Anyway, after I started working on it---and then saw the picture I took, it reminded me of a sunset
like this.
Look at what a knit-nerd I have become. I have all my yarn labels with samples of each in this binder. I also keep patterns for things I have NO idea how to make. Am I cool or what? lol
Also I have a antique cookie tin that I have started to keep all my little knitting goodies in...gauge thingie, needle point thingies, a stitch holder thingie...yep, lot's of thingies.
Pretty Lady huh?
Well, I guess I will sign off for the night!
(and yes, I am still painting and drawing) ;)
