Really, if I'm going to be gagged with duct tape I'd rather it were my own. Lord knows what kind of nastiness and lint someone else's duct tape might have picked up.

It's to keep him from explaining the scientific principles behind whatever he's doing. Of course, he still might, but it's going to be a bit muffled.
