my sister who painstakingly took time from updating her blog to design me a banner :)
It was a warm, sunny day. Glowing ribbons of pink, purple and orange spread across the sky as five eager boys charged down the steps of a stifling brown building. It was holiday season and they were finally given a day off from their hectic schedules and frantic lifestyle.
The group raced down the path as they challenged themselves: a double scoop ice cream was the prize. Ironically, the member with two left legs won and snagged the ice cream cone from Junsu as Yoochun came crawling on the ground, finishing the race last. Jaejoong offered his ice to Yunho as Changmin looked over, salivating.
Leaning against a lamp post, the youngest one suggested going to the funfair. Dolphin laughter filled the air as Junsu pummeled Changmin to the lawn, rolling on the flowerbed until Yunho stomped his feet, hands on the hips. A delicate hand slinked behind his waist and pulled him into a firm hug. Junsu leered at the loving couple. Jaejoong swatted him on his head with a roll of newspaper.
Giving it another shot, Changmin suggested going to the zoo instead. Positive responses came from the rest of them, while Yunho looked quizzically at Changmin. Yunho repeated the suggestion and massaged his temple, feeling a migraine crawling in. Going to the zoo with five hyper fun-deprived boys was a nightmare he feared to even imagine. Jaejoong tugged his arms and pouted before promising to be on their best behaviors. The others gave their word and saluted neatly at their reluctant leader.
With no reasons to reject, he nodded unwillingly and found himself piled with four grown up boys in his arms, the tallest one knocking heads with him. He snuck a kiss on the raven-haired’s lips before loosening his grip on them. Junsu and Yoochun held hands, skipping along while Changmin tried to come between them, forcing his clammy hands in the knot. Jaejoong let out a giggle and discreetly covered the source with his dainty hands. Yunho reached out and hooked them in his, fingering the slender digits as they walked.
A large metal signboard reading ‘The National Korea Zoo’ was nailed on the orange walls as they drank in the crowd before them. Kids in various sizes were running up the brick path, grasping the metal railings with their porky hands, colorful ice lollies in their mouth. Their babysitters ran along behind them, catching their breath every so often on wooden benches situated appropriately in the middle of the zoo. There were dozens and dozens of cages lined at both of the sides, rounding the whole expanse.
Junsu clasped his hands together; eyes sparkling with excitement and ran inside, perky butt tumbling behind him. Changmin gave a squeak and scurried, not wanting to lose all the fun, but not before Yoochun managed to tug the sleeve of his graffitied tee, asking him to wait up. Yunho quirked an eyebrow at Jaejoong and received a reassuring smile in return. They slinked hands once again and strolled through the tall, menacing gates.
The two youngest ones dashed to the nearest cage, clamping their hands excitedly on the metal railing, eyes widened to search the hidden animal. Before even settling his eyes on the cage, Yoochun was steamrolled by an ecstatic Changmin who made a mad dash to the other end. He gaily wave his hands in the air as Junsu came scampering over, pulling along Yoochun whose eyes were rolling. Putting on his childish façade, Jaejoong joined in, oohing and aahing at a lanky giraffe while Yunho eyed the towering creature before him. He lets out an impressed ‘Wow’ before moving on to the next cage.
Jaejoong and Junsu were shouting and jumping up and down repeatedly as they pointed at a gigantic grey elephant showering its young with water from a pond nearby. It is fairly known that Jaejoong adores elephants as much as he adores his lover. The three of them had to pull the both of them away because they were trying to lure the elephant with Jaejoong’s Keroppi mini fan.
Changmin then promptly hinted that it was lunch time. Jaejoong chimed in, agreeing while absent-mindedly patting his flat stomach. Yunho proposed that they have an impromptu picnic at the park--Yoochun piped up with enthusiasm, admitting that he was virgin when it came to picnics.
They were greeted by a gorgeous array of flowering pink azaleas and yellow forsythia bordering the green lawn. The scene was bathed in a tawny glow and a Technicolor sky. Couples took strolls, hand in hand; a group of elderly circled a man in his forties, taking slow strides, while awkwardly lifting their bed-ridden legs in the air. The boys searched for an empty spot and sat down, before relaxing on the slightly damp grass.
Jaejoong’s maternal instinct kicked in as he juggled two polystyrene food packages, handing each member a mandu dumpling before feeding Yunho with his share. The rest of them ate their dumpling in content silence, taking in the savory shredded kimchi and juicy meat filling. Changmin and Junsu took second helpings while Jaejoong unclasped the second package, revealing a delightfully appetizing Hae-Mul Pa-Jeon. Everyone poked their fork in, effectively launching a fork war. The war went on with five childish boys, unaware of the danger; jabbing and prodding each other until Yunho called for time-out.
As the sun set, the atmosphere mellowed down with stripes of purple and pink making love in air. Yunho and Jaejoong lay down beside each other; Changmin playfully tried to snuggle in between them before running to Junsu when he was met with a murderous glare from their leader. Yoochun with his knees bent in front of him puts his head on Junsu's shoulder; rocking himself back and fro.
These are the times when they wish blissful moments like this would never end. That it would go on forever and ever. Just the five of them; it completes the picture, perfecting the bond as one unit. And, it’s only when Jaejoong held hands with Junsu and Changmin, with Yoochun lying on his chest, as he (sat) next to Yunho, is when they feel blessed, sincerely praying to Gods above, allowing them to stay together till they aged old. Even after Dong Bang Shin Ki is disbanded one day, they will remain as loyal fan to each other; chipping into one another’s life so often.
