(no subject)

I typed up this dream to e-mail to rakelspektakel, so I thought I might as well save it here.

rakelspektakel, roomie Erin and I were in what appeared to be the bar room of an 18th/19th-century inn and tavern (or older), only it was the present day. The room was all wood-paneled and ancient with no decoration, just large cupboards and huge worn wooden tables and benches. There was a mirror here and there and big metal serving dishes, the occasional crude vase of flowers, baskets of food and barrels of drink, all with something of a farm atmosphere to it. However, this was neither a tavern nor an inn, as it was reopening in Madison as a coffee shop. I was there to meet with the owners, who were reviewing an application from cedarsong, who was applying to attend grad school at Madison. (!) The owners were two twenty/thirty-something blond women, obviously free-spirit types, in fun flowy clothing with beads and braids in their hair. I had a good time talking to them while Rakel and Erin hung out nearby. I remember giving a detailed history of what I actually know of Natalie's education--her alma maters, where she studied abroad, her master's degree, everything.

When it seemed I had answered all their questions, the three of us rejoined my friends and talked for a while, mainly about the business they were opening and the building itself. I can't remember the building's history but I remember really liking it and looking forward to coming back.

It also turned out Rakel was massively pregnant. So she started having contractions while we were talking, and for some reason Erin and I were totally nonchalant about it. (She, however, was less so). It occured to me that maybe we should take her out of the coffee shop before her water broke--and lo and behold, her water broke. That finally spurred Erin and me into action. We each took an elbow and helped Rakel out of the coffee shop, and when we got outside, it didn't seem that we were in 2007 Madison after all. It was night, and there were no buildings to be seen, just a dirt road along the steep grassy bank of a river.

Amazingly, we still weren't freaking out and we seemed to know where we needed to go, so we started walking Rakel along the road. As if out of nowhere, a group of men with torches and big, vicious dogs attacked us. I finally started to worry, a lot. They seemed to want Rakel. Erin and I were freaking out as they pulled the three of us apart from each other, and we all struggled as hard as we could. Then between the men and the dogs and everything, the fight edged closer and closer to the bank of the river, until finally Rakel's knees buckled and she tumbled down the bank into the water, the dogs leaping down after her. I saw her bobbing in the water, alive but very afraid and still very pregnant, and then I woke up.
