hello hello,
Yesterday morning a fire burst out in Ramona in San Diego, which is a pretty dry hilly area and thus prone to fire. Regardless, there are some pretty expensive and huge houses built up there and the people there are used to these threats. This fire is different from any of the others in SD or in fact, all of California, because this one is out of control and unpredictable. . the flames are basically [literally] jumping from area to area. . . it's really bad. Firemen haven't been able to start putting out fires because the wind & gusts are SO strong. They didn't die down during nightfall either, which was abnormal as well as EXTREMELY unconvenient. Wind gusts were just under 60mph. All of Ramona was evacuated, and most of it is already burned down.
This fire would've been easier to put out had the winds cared to die down, which obviously they havent. That factor + dry brush + hot temperatures/Santa Ana weather is a perfect combination for a raging fire spread.
The wind's direction of movement of the main fire was heading through my neighborhood and all the way through to the ocean. We went to bed late. . my dad woke up at 3am to check the news and nothing was noted for our neighborhood. An hour later we were woken up again by my aunt saying that we have to pick up because my neighborhood [Rancho Bernardo] is burning. We packed all of our things that we could fit, things we needed and things that couldn't be replaced. We took photos of everything for insurance purposes. . but it's still a shame if anything happens to it. Currently the news has been covering all parts of Rancho Bernardo. . .the shock I think we are all in is slowly fading as we realize that OUR area is on the news. My particular neighborhood isn't yet, thank goodness. But I think a couple of my friends' houses had burned down, and they didn't have time to get much :( Anyway, we're at a relative's house and safe for now. The fucking fires are everywhere. Here are some areas off the top of my head that are mandatory evacuated or are currently being evacuated:
Ramona
Rancho Bernardo / Poway / 4S Ranch / Escondido
San Pasqual
Scripps Ranch
Santa Fe
Carmel Valley
Fallbrook
Otay Lake
Border of Mexico
Malibu
Canyon Valley
There are more. . .
The Governor's in our city. . the President is going to be helping. Hospitals & Nursing homes are being evacuated.
100,000 acres have burned.
250,000 people have been evacuated.
1 person dead.
17 burned.
That means about 1/8 of SD has been evacuated.
The air is unbreathable.
We have to stay inside. .
This is the worst fire in all of CA history.
I'll update later if anything comes up.
If you want more information, just look up "Witch Creek Fire San Diego" or "Harris Fire" etc etc. .
This is ridiculous.
