Weekend update...
So, as you know, I have DSL now. I am extremely happy about it. But OMG, the process of acquiring it was tedious! Last week, Monday, my mom, dad, Giana, and I went to IT&E to sign up for DSL. We were told that we'd be on a waiting list. That was all well and good. It was actually expected because my mother had already spoken to GTA previously.
Friday, I called my mom during my lunch hour because I was bored as hell. She informed me that IT&E called her that we had been hooked up. I was so happy. My mom and dad went out and bought the Nortel modem and a router for the house.
I wasn't able to set it up when I got home from school. Friday was my Christmas party, more on that later. I talked to Dennis before going to the party. Wanting the fact that I now had DSL to be a surprise, I didn't tell him that it was hooked up. I sneakily asked him different questions regarding the set up of the modem and everything. *giggle*
I set it up when I got home from the party at 11:45. Well, I ATTEMPTED to set it up. The modem did not come with any instructions so, using deductive reasoning and Den's instructions, I plugged it in as best as possible. I did a great job if I do say so myself. That part was absolutely simple.
UNTIL... When I tried to log online there was a little error message that was constantly popping up. It said, Error 680: NO Dial tone detected. Now, I am not ALL that computer saavy but I think I know enough to understand that DSL lines USE the telephone but do NOT require a dial tone. SO I went back to my connections... I tried many MANY different things... checked the connection to the wall socket, power supply, rebooted computer, ETC. NOTHING worked. What made things worse was that I couldn't even use my DIAL UP because the phone jack wasn't fitting the hole thingy... that section of the computer wasn't installed properly... it's not aligned so the bottom half isn't sliding in. *sigh*
Finally, at 2:15 A.M., I gave up. I called Dennis, left a message asking him to page me when he get's home so that I can call him. I was feeling defeated. Instead of paging me, Dennis called me on his cell. He talked with me a long time. He made me feel so much better. I explained to him why I was so sad and he was excited that I now had DSL despite the fact that it wasn't working properly. He even attempted to walk me through everything once more. Of course, I would rather TALK to him than have him be computer tech boy. So we did just that =). I LOVE HIM.
The next morning, I did bank runs then called the tech support at IT&E. I spoke to Nikki first. She was like..."Hrm.. DSL doesn't require a dial tone", I said... yeah I figured... so what do I do... She figured it out instantly after I told her I had Windows 2000. I had to use my dialup (WELL OH SHIT) again... and download ENTERNET 300. *sigh* SO once again... I struggled with the back of my computer to try to get the piece to slide in. At one point, I used a nail file to prop up the metal section but as soon as i took it out the jack slid out. I was SOOOOOOO close to crying. Finally, after like 2 hours of trying (no I am not exaggerating) It finally slid in. (YAY!) I downloaded the program and called IT&E back.
This time I spoke to Roddrick. He was really REALLY helpful and very customer friendly. =)
SO I had my DSL up and running. *beam*
I talked with Dennis ALL weekend long. It was so wonderful. We were talking using this program that Dirk recommended called eyeball chat. Sooo wonderful we could see eachother and talk... it was as if I was doing my work on one side of the room and he did his... it was like... we were together in the same room... going about our business but THERE...*sigh* SO cool... I really needed that. I love this man.
Oh... the Christmas party was cool.. It was at the Reef. I got to hang out with Anna, Madrid, Richard, and Joser. =) Excellent stuff...
Oh, I am home right now because I had a MENSTRATION accident.... so stupid... I told Den that I was going to get my period this week.. but I FORGOT this morning! SO STUPID. So... I just left a period earlier. I also have a dental appointment... in about an hour.... So.. heading there now!!
Hee hee... ummm 16 days.. =)
