[ History ] :
here [ Personality ] :
Effy is as clever as a girl can get, but there is also a softer side to her. When Tony, her older brother, was recovering from the car crash, she was the motherly figure who took care of him and read him Greek myths if he had a nightmare or couldn't go to sleep. She protects those that she loves, sometimes in ways that may seem mean to others. If someone is insulting a friend and that friend isn't speaking up, she'll insult them cruelly but subtly. She's usually very composed, and in the first season she never spoke a word until after Tony's accident, but before that Tony was proud of her for sneaking out at night to go clubbing and have sex.
She appears some-what aloof to others as a guard for herself, but she also proves to be insightful and sly, as proven when she offers to fix problems for her friends and succeeds. In the third series, she seemed to develop into a femme fatale, her slyness and beauty being her strengths. Because of this, other people would become drawn to her. She's quiet and is fine with standing in a group of friends without saying a word, but even if she's not doing anything even a girl's boyfriend will hit on her try and draw her away from her friend, not bothering to care about their girlfriend. This gives Effy a kind of power that she knows that she has, and uses because she knows it will work.
Effy is used to being able to do everything that she puts her mind to. If something doesn't work out as planned, she is able to act as if it was the plan the whole time. She enjoys to watch people and can usually tell if there is something wrong within a relationship, be it friendly or romantic. On her first day at Roundview College, she is quietly watching a pair of twins walking to the school, and notices that one of them, Emily, is stuck in the background of her sister Katie, and Effy makes a remark to herself, "Oh, right. You hate her."
She loves to party, and isn't afraid to try drugs or drink alcohol. She also smokes regularly and knows how to use drugs without getting sick afterward and usually uses them to get away from problems, or just have fun. Her best friend, Pandora, is innocent and hadn't done anything before she got to know Effy, who introduced her to drugs and drinking, which shows that Effy can be a bit of a bad influence to those who don't know what they're getting into. Later in the series, she becomes involved in a love triangle with Freddie, JJ, and Cook, who are all best friends. The reason why Effy is so out of control sometimes, but seemingly in control, is because her parents are getting a divorce, and their family is already so separated that she can't stand it any more. She is the mother of the family, and she has to take care of everyone while being ignored at the same time. At one point, she drops a glass vase on the floor in order to get her mother's attention after talking about having a baby with her current on again off again boyfriend (Cook) and being completely ignored. The glass breaking certainly gets her mother's attention, but by then it's already too late, and Effy feels utterly alone. Her own mother can't even reach out to her daughter to talk to her, she's too focused on herself and her husband's idiocy.
After she hits Katie over the head with a rock and gives her a concussion along with a very bruised face with stitches, things start to go downhill more than they already were. She slowly becomes more and more introverted, escaping with Cook to a small fishing town to see his emotionally abusing father. She enjoys herself at first, but after noticing Cook's discomfort, she pleads with Freddie to come to the town to help her and Cook out. Once things have been resolved, Effy gets back together with Freddie and shuns Cook from her life. When Effy's mother leaves for a vacation, Freddie and Effy spend their time doing drugs and having sex in her house, but one day, Effy snaps and starts posting pictures of 'death' over her mother's bed. She's caught by Freddie, who takes it as a joke at first, but then he realizes that she is suffering from psychotic depression. Effy is admitted to a psychiatric hospital after attempting to commit suicide in a bathroom when left alone.
She is kept in a mental hospital, and becomes friends with her psychiatrist, John T. Foster, who, in turn, tries to keep her for himself and hypnotizes her into forgetting certain memories, friends and family. He also goes so far as to kill Freddie when he begins to suspect something of the psychiatrist. She becomes Elizabeth Stonem, not 'Effy'. In fact, John goes so far to make her forget just who she was, and inadvertantly makes her burn her old clothes. In this new state, she becomes less aloof and more in-tune with herself and people, but backs away from drugs. When Effy is released and reconnecting with friends, she ends up reverting to her old self, going back to who she was: Effy. (only her awesome clothes are now gone, fabulous.)
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Effy is good at everything that she does, but not with opening up to others. It scares her to let others into her world. She's also very clever, she knows her way around the streets and can get out of trouble easily and is a master at lying.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
none that I can think of.
[ Sample ] :
When Katie left the party, Effy had left Freddie alone to go and follow her. Ever since Effy had hit Katie over the head with a rock in self defense because Katie had started strangling her, things between the two had been tense, and Effy hated that. She hated being forced away from her friends no matter what happened.
So, when she found Katie sitting on the dock, she smiled that Effy smile of hers, walking over to her and sitting down right beside her. If things had to be fixed, they had to be fixed. Life's too short for all of the trouble they were going through.
"Nothing's ever perfect." Effy told her, because it was true. Perfect had become a twisted and strange thing to Effy. Everything around her seemed to always fall apart or fuck up, so she learned to accept it the way it was, even if she had to self medicate herself with alcohol.
So, she apologized to Katie, and when Katie finally accepted her apology, she was satisfied. Friends had always been a strong and a weak point for Effy, being who she was. Somehow, they would be drawn to her, but she would always push them away at some point. She was slowly learning how to be open with her friends, especially Freddie, who had done so much to be with her. The only person that had stuck with her through everything was Pandora, who was completely useless sometimes, and lovely other times, because no matter how much Effy fucked up, Pandora was always there for her.
