here.
The main story that I'll be snagging him from is Marble Hornets. The story begins
here and ends with Entry 29.
[ Personality ] :
Slenderman can't talk because he doesn't have a mouth. Or a face, for that matter, just white "skin" is shown. Because he can't speak, he uses a medium to help him communicate. When he is haunting Alex, his medium is "totheark" or "Masky", who stalks Alex and is able to create videos to tell Alex what Slenderman wants, in his own way. Slenderman has a history of devouring children and young adults, though there isn't an actual known reason. It's his own kind of punishment towards humanity, and he enjoys it. Without a real reason to regret anything he's done, he does what he wants, whenever he wants. Usually, he approaches those he targets slowly, it's not an instant kill for him. He'll begin with watching you curiously within a 100 foot radius, observing what you do or how you react to certain things for at least a week before moving closer. He likes to watch before moving in for the kill, or at least, for a good scare. It pleases him to see humans writhe in fear before him. With Alex, he didn't kill him, he just spoke through "totheark", until finally, appearing before Alex in the woods and then, in front of his house.
Being something that can't talk, see, hear, or smell (maybe killing children has something to do with it?), he doesn't have any friends, and he's perfectly fine with that. He doesn't need friends because they're useless anyway -- there's no point in befriending something that is weak and without much purpose, so he plays with humans instead. He likes to watch them bleed, and he decorates the trees with their bodies after he's done with them. What else is he supposed to do with them? Put them on the ground? No, he's not cool with that. He adds a bit of style to his kills each time, no matter who or what they are. Though he may kill for the pleasure and punishment towards those who do something he finds interesting, who knows why he does it exactly, he teases the camera as well, often showing up in the background and tilting his head as if to say, "What now?"
He is a sadistic creature, anything but human. He has no goals, no real reasons for doing anything he does. If he wants to focus on someone in particular and haunt them for however long he likes, he'll do just that. He isn't one for sticking around after being close to a human, as seen in
Entry 4, where Alex starts to chase Slenderman after a close encounter and Slenderman disappears, not wanting to be close nor caught. His comfort zone is either behind a closed door or at the very least, 40 feet away and peering around corners curiously. The distances tend to become smaller over time, after observing his prey for a while. Slenderman will go as far as entering a home and watching you sleep, perhaps doing a few things to harm you in the process if possible.
If anything, his curiosity can get the best of him at some points. He'll go to great lengths just to observe something he finds interesting from a distance. Sympathizing with the creature would be a mistake, because even though he may be curious about humanity, he has no intention of being kind to it, just harming and haunting it. If you were to converse with him, nothing would come of it. The only ally that he ever had was totheark, his medium, so for him to be away from him, it will be harder for him to communicate what he wants to do to those he takes an interest in. His targets are random, he takes what he has in front of him and uses it to his liking.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths:
• Since Slenderman doesn't have the senses of hearing, seeing, smelling, or talking, he is able to sense what is around him from some kind of telepathy. When he was standing outside of Alex's door and is seen through the windows. Alex is not making a sound, but when Alex realizes exactly where Slenderman is, Slenderman's head moves abruptly and is is "looking" directly back at Alex.
• He is a shape shifter. He usually takes the form of a tall man in a black suit, but can manipulate his body to any proportion (such as making his arms longer for dramatic effect, or ensnaring prey)
• It is believed he is in another dimension of time, or at least able to control the time around him, moving slowly (or at normal speed) if you are continuously watching him, yet being able to disappear and reappear somewhere else completely in the blink of an eye. So he can either teleport or his motions are slowed when being watched. That gives the idea that he possesses a supernatural speed, being able to transport himself long distances in a matter of seconds.
• Though there is no actual proof that it is Slenderman's doing, if he is to appear during the day a thick fog appears before he does, enveloping the area in which he resides.
• If being taped, the film is distorted so that there is either no sound, or the visual is messed up and scratched, making the sound and tape distorted.
• Being a shape shifter, he is able to produce multiple limbs for arms if he wishes.
There are clues that Slenderman can cause amnesia and/or hide his presence from peoples' minds, as seen in Entry 17, where he is in front of the camera throughout the whole tape and Alex should be looking in his direction the entire time, yet is oblivious to Slenderman's presence. During some of the other tapes, the people present sometimes can't remember what happened during said tape, which is usually when Slenderman appears.
• Even though it's not proven, Slenderman willingly or unconsciously tampers with technology, making video cameras break constantly.
Weaknesses:
• As stated beforehand, Slenderman is unable to hear, see, smell, or talk, so that may or may not pose as a disadvantage for him in the long run. He has a thing for shady areas, so seeing him in broad daylight in the middle of an open field is highly unlikely unless he has decided to take a walk, which probably wouldn't happen. His preferred time of day is during the evening, where it's easier to blend into the shadows.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
He will eat your children and screw up your technology.
[ Sample ] :
[The feed turns on, the SFC on its side on the ground. The feed is extremely distorted, lines running through the screen and the sound occasionally cutting out. A tall, dark figure in a black suit is standing a few feet away from the camera. When the feed gets clear enough, there are glimpses of long, spindly arms hanging on either side of the man's waist. His head, which is completely white and with no features, has tilted to the side curiously, as if he is examining the object in front of him.
Nothing peculiar.
He's seen something like it before, a recording device. Alex used it for his project and caught him on tape sometimes.
For one second, the screen turns black and when it turns back on, the man is very, very close to the screen. All you can see is his pant leg, which is black, so people who did not catch what had just happened may think that the screen is just wonky. Their opinion would soon be changed, though, as the man picks up the SFC with his hand and brings it up to his 'face', tilting his head a bit more before the feed becomes so messy and distorted that it shuts off completely with a loud crack.]
[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : none!
