[WHAT AM I SAVING MY QUARTERS UP FOR?]

As I sit here playing through House of the Dead 2, I am reminded of how fucking terrible this game is of how much I miss being able to go to arcades.

Sure, being able to play these arcade games on consoles and whatnot is nice for various reasons, but it also just doesn't feel the same as being able to play through them in an arcade. The atmosphere is different, and the console controllers (plastic DDR pad/wiimote/etc.) just don't compare to the real tools. It was nice using your spare change to play through games, being able to watch other people play games, and going there to hang out with friends while potentially making new friends as well. I may overly sentimental, but damn do I miss arcades.

Being able to play DDR at the arcades was also like the only time I got exercise. I was easily able to get through three expert songs on DDR back in the day, but the few DDR machines I'm able to find these days have shown me that I can barely get through one expert song. The decline of arcades in America is going to be the cause of my death... you heard it here first!
