"She's gorgeous," David babbles on the end of the phone, sounding like he's going to burst with pride at any moment. "Sam says she's got my eyes, but I think she's got Sam's, and she has the softest hair you've ever seen..."
Nick just smiled, automatically nodding along. "I'm so happy, for you, David. You and Sam."
"Nicola's just so perfect," David continued happily. "I can't wait to show her off to everyone."
Nick froze as he mentally re-ran what David had just said. "Uh, David? What did you say her name was?"
"Nicola Tasmin Cameron," David answered. "It's a lovely name, don't you think?"
Nick closed his eyes, not believing what he had heard. "David, did you name your baby Nick?"
There was a pause on the other end.
"Oh crap," David finally breathed. "That's not going to go down well, is it?"
Nick groaned, running one hand absentmindedly through his hair. "The media's gonna love it, that's for sure," he muttered. "David, what were you thinking?"
"It's the name of one of Sam's great-aunts," David mumbled, sounding worried. "Sam suggested it, and I thought it suited her, so..."
Nick bit his bottom lip, trying to hide the sudden grin on his face. "You ended up creating the ultimate Coalition present. Nice going, Dave."
There was a small chuckle from the other end. "Looks like I did, didn't I? I doubt anyone's going to believe me when I tell them the baby wasn't named after you."
"It's an honour to have a namesake of my own, I must say," Nick admitted, feeling suddenly protective of little Nicola Cameron.
There was some muffled talking, then David replied "Okay, Nick, I've got to go now. Talk to you later."
"Tell Nic Nick said hi!" Nick called, grinning.
David was laughing as he hang up.
