Dearest Anons,

In five days (on May 8, 2011) this meme will have existed for a whole year.

It is an extraordinary achievement, your extraordinary achievement, to have kept this going well and alive for so long. With thousands of fics and comments, this meme is one of (if not the) most amazing thing I've ever come across. Not only the amount of fic ( Read more... )

Well, the two things you have to fix to make them functional are:

1) TB/GB
2) Peter interfering with Alastair's job

If you sort those two out they should basically be okay. The easiest fix for (1) that I can see is to make John Smith die from his first heart attack. Then Gordon becomes Neil Kinnock's chancellor and is the obvious successor to Neil after the 1992 election. Tony never gets his foot in the door, and is probably reasonably content as Home or Foreign Secretary under a Brown Government.

This also fixes (2), because the solution to Peter is to keep him busy with a real job so he can't keep trying to be Communications Director as well, and I don't think Gordon would be as inclined as Tony was to keep him trapped in the shadows. If Gordon gives him Northern Ireland or Trade and Industry right away, it should solve the Peter/Alastair issue.

Presumably Ed Balls will be hired at some point to help the new chancellor (Alastair Darling?), and I'm guessing he still be a problem, but probably much less of one without the Blair/Brown rift to fall into.
