ohlord I cannot believe I got the inclination to write this I mean it's too early these guys haven't done shit yet but but but I just couldn't resist. Spin doctor kink. :(

"Bob, Bob, Bob," Tom repeated, looking at his mobile and then looking up at Bob, his eyes darting back and forth nervously.

Bob looked at him in the eye, as if to make sure the rumours were just rumours, Tory hogwash, and Tom wasn't really on drugs of any kind. Couldn't be. After all, this was important. This was professional.

"What is it?" Bob asked calmly.

"Is Ed fucking serious?" Tom asked, showing him the screen of his BlackBerry.

Bob read the words and couldn't help but fluster. "Ed's ..Ed's really lovely. Just not really tuned to the sense of humour of the rest of the universe."

"I'll say," Tom said, shaking his head. "This isn't funny."

"Well, it is, kind of." Bob observed Tom's frown and added, "He calls Stewart 'Lord Wood'. It's a thing."

"What does he call you, then?" Tom asked.

"I'd rather not say," Bob replied and returned to looking over the papers.

"It can't be worse than mine," Tom encouraged.

"It actually is," Bob insisted.

"Worse than Fuckmeister?" Tom asked just as Ed came in, grinning widely.

"Oh you got my text?" he asked Tom, and for once, Tom was slightly lost for words.

"I didn't quite understand it," Tom answered, struggling to phrase himself.

"Well, you use the word a lot," Ed said casually. "Bob's is worse."

"So I've heard," Tom said. "Are we allowed to call you something?"

"What would you call me?" Ed asked innocently.

"I can think of a few things," Tom began and Bob saw an opportunity to stop a disaster from happening.

"Why don't we save that for later," he said. "Now let's look over this speech."

Miliband was, for all intents and purposes, a sneaky one. When mild-mannered Stewart entered the room, Tom spouting a speech passionate and full of expletives, it was Tom who flushed as Ed introduced him and chose to throw in his newly-invented nickname. Lord Wood settled in their midst quite nicely, and all was fine. The bad cop to Bob's good cop was effectively tamed, purring by the end of the session.

And all was well.
