Handbags At Dawn: Once More, With Book Launches

So it looks like there isn't going to be a band reunion after all, campers. Well, at least not with any of the original line-up, though at the moment it's not even clear if the new lot still want to use the existing band name or not. Try not to cry. After all, we've now almost got the full set of dirty laundry, and one day Alison may stop teasing and give us her full, real, unexpurgated diaries. Regrettably, Gina's book looks like it actually will be, as announced, a study of recent trends in the music industry, and lacking in such tasty(ish) gossip and score-settling as we've become used to from the other three, let alone the various bits of entourage cashing in on the interest while it lasts. Still, in case you should be strapped for cash, we thought we'd do a quick recap of what's on offer from each member.

First out of the stable, again, Alison. Yes, we know, you're thinking you've already seen one set of her diaries from her time with the band, but she now says that wasn't the complete version. Nor is this one. Apparently, she's holding back out of loyalty to ThirdWay records, something about not wanting to make Gina look bad as she plodded desperately through her last round as lead singer. Right. We believe you, Ali, thousands wouldn't. Millions don't, in fact. They think you're just milking your cash cow to the max. And we all know by the end Gina had basically moved over pretty much all the members of her other band, Treasure, to replace the departed lot. And was still outshone by the surprise return of Petra, and the occasional concert guest spot by Toni and indeed, Ali herself.

Still, at least Ali's latest edit, Reaching the Top, Thanks to Me, charting the girls' way from struggling newcomers to chart domination, with the promise of more unexpurgated stuff to follow, has provided a few tidbits we hadn't got before. Like the news that Alison does not think much of music journalists, despite having started out as one, a piece of information we could never have put together for ourselves from the regular appearance of headlines such as “Ali headbutts critic, breaking critic's nose”, “Ali calls interviewer a stupid slag”, or our particular favourite, “Say 'sexed up' one more time, and I'll fucking have you”.
