Born of woman the seventh son
And he in turn of a seventh son

He has the gift of the second sight
He is the chosen one
So it shall be written
So it shall be done"

CH: Indulged your ego enough yet?

ES: Well, maybe you should both contribute some answers.

CH: All right, you want to know the truth? I liked playing Alastair at first. It was so liberating to get to be the one doing the bullying for once. I didn't get a lot of screen-time, of course, but the scenes we did film were so intense that, after a while, it got a bit much. I just couldn't sustain the persona any more.

HM: [Nodding.] He was a nightmare to work with. Kept stopping to apologise. We asked the writers to tone it down, to make the character closer to Chester's actual personality, but they said a shy, nerdy bloke wouldn't make a convincing enough spin doctor.

ES: So when you left the show, the rumours that it was down to disagreements with the writers and producer were true?

CH: Partly. It was mostly the character; he'd been given such a dark backstory, and I had to work that into all the egoism and aggression. Besides, we all have other things we want to do with our lives, right?

ES: Some might call that a wise decision. Mr Moorland, it's been said that you're considering theatre as your next career path. Do you really think you have what it takes to pull off Hamlet?

HM: [Laughs.] Do I look like a man who ever backs down to a challenge, or a chance to see his name in lights? Seriously, though, it's like I said before - my character in the Commons may have moved to the Lords, but I've still got a job to do for the show and I won't leave until I feel the time is right. The time is not right yet, but when it is... who knows? Henry Moorland: the next Macbeth?

CH: Please, god, no.

HM: I've been told I'd be very suited to the theatre, actually...

CH: I'm not saying you wouldn't be good at it. I just want to have to go to any more bloody premiers or awards ceremonies. We've both had enough attention for a lifetime.

ES: I'm sure no-one would argue with you, Mr Hope. Finally, I'd like to ask both of you - what were the best and worst, or simply most memorable moments of filming for the show?

HM: Well, it wasn't fun having custard chucked in my face, I can tell you. I thought we were going to use a stunt-double, but it turned out the director wanted a proper clear shot of it dripping off me, so they got the girl playing the protestor to tip the bucket all over my head... [Shudders.] It took three takes, and I was freezing. As for the best moment, I spent a week doing on-location filming in Greece with Daniel. That was... insurpassable.

CH: I didn't like having to wear a suit all the time, or when kids used to hide behind their parents when they saw me in the street. That, I could have lived without, 'cause I'm essentially harmless. But the best moment came when I had to tell off Adam Boulton - sounds terrible, but I forget the name of the actor now - in the election special earlier this year. He was getting so worked-up, all red in the face and shouting, that it was hard not to just collapse in giggles.

ES: Ah, we all saw that on the highlights. You didn't look so shy there.

HM: Oh, he is. Just a very good actor. [Hope snorts.] And so modest, too!

ES: Well, it's been good talking to you both. We all wish you best of luck for the future, whatever paths you choose to follow - although I'm sure the BBC wouldn't object if two of their most shadowy characters ever decided to make a big comeback...

HM: I'm saying nothing.

CM: Because it's not happening, that's why.

HM: I'm still saying nothing.

Wait, these two are a couple, right? And CH doesn't mind HM tarting around the Mediterranean with a cute Scottish Osborne-actor? This needs sequels. And elaborations. And, and just keeping going. Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaase?
