David's not drunk enough to expect what happens, though there's probably not enough alcohol in the world for that. Maybe it's strange that Ed, his sweet, slightly naive brother, is all over this girl, letting her grope him through his trousers right in front of the whole bar, but that's not the bit that bothers David. It's when the girl murmurs something predictable about going back to her flat and then adds, loud enough for David to be sure he hasn't misheard her, "you can bring your boyfriend if you want." And David's expecting the awkward moment where they explain that they're actually brothers (and he's amazed she can't see the family resemblance, but then maybe she's smashed too), but it never comes. Instead Ed grabs his wrist like it's already decided, and David can't find it in himself to say no. He never has been able to deny his brother.
The girl doesn't live far away but the walk seems to take forever. And maybe David's drunker than he thought; or maybe the feel of Ed's fingers on his wrist, the uncertainty of what's going to happen, is just too distracting. Walking's kind of difficult anyway, and David's almost glad when the girl pushes his brother into a nearby wall and starts exploring his mouth with her tongue. And David would feel like a third wheel, out of place and unwanted, only Ed's still clinging to him like a limpet, is even looking at him over the girl's shoulder. There's something stirring in the pit of David's stomach, and it takes him a while to realise it's arousal. Ed's fingers on his wrist, gripping like he's never going to let go; Ed's eyes locked onto his; the girl's words from before: bring your boyfriend. The girl pulls away, takes Ed's free hand, drags him away from the wall. They end up wobbling down the street, a drunken chain of people, and David's pretty sure that Ed's hand on his wrist is the only thing keeping him grounded.
They get to the flat eventually, the girl opening the door with an impressive amount of coordination. David and Ed share a look as she sticks the key into the look: David's pretty sure he's conveying Fuck, are we really going to go this?, panic surfacing from somewhere beneath the booze and lust. Ed just slides his hand down into David's, gives it a quick squeeze before following the girl into the flat. And it's the perfect opportunity to run, to slope off back to the club and pretend this never happened, but David doesn't. He doesn't even consider it.
When David gets inside, they're kissing again, Ed undoing the girl's dress with a surprising amount of skill, and David definitely feels like the third wheel now, but maybe that's the point. Surely he'll follow them both into the bedroom, find a chair to sit in and watch them get lost in each other.
