*waves to everyone who is still around*
It's great to still see people prompting and writing :) We may have lost a few people on the way but we also had some new intake. Thanks for keeping this place alive!

Let's hope that conference season and the next election will help to pick up the pace a bit.

The strong, overwhelming arousal Nick feels at the thought makes him feel sick even as it sends blood pounding to his groin. He's his party's bloody leader, theoretically the thing that stands between them and political annihilation. He shouldn't betray them with thoughts of submitting to their enemy.

And it isn't just who David is. Nick worships his wife and adores his children. He knows that no amount of explanation would smooth over an infidelity. His wife sent him to the spare room for unwittingly suggesting that he had had a great number of lovers before he'd even married her. She would take the children to Spain and he would never see them again.

And despite all the compromises and the inevitable lies, deep down inside, Nick still wants to be a different kind of politician. Not like Jeremy Thorpe and David Mellor and John Major and Bill Clinton and François Mitterrand and Silvio Berlusconi and Robin Cook and Paddy Ashdown. Though he might at least get some grudging kudos for being different and banging his boss rather than his secretary.

Nick glances up at David just as the latter ends his phone conversation. One look at David's face makes it clear that he has missed nothing of Nick's observation of his crotch. In fact, his eyes are fixed on the front of Nick's own shorts, no doubt as entertainingly reshaped as David's.

David reaches down, hand cupping Nick's cheek, and for one insane moment, Nick lets him. But then reason prevails and Nick pulls back, ducking his head to hide his reaction and concentrate on retying his shoelaces. He can't undress here in front of David. That was a stupid idea.

He stands up when he's done and David grabs him in an awkward embrace, long sharp nose digging into Nick's cheek as he kisses his mouth. It makes Nick dizzy with desire and for a moment, he responds. But he soon pulls away.

He stutters a refusal, calls his boss 'Dave' and is about to mention his wife, his children, David's family that has already suffered enough tragedies without this as well. But he knows from the stricken look on David's face that he doesn't need to say more.

David nods silently and turns away. Nick does likewise, focusing on getting away as quickly as he can. It was a narrow escape this time, but he knows he will have to remain strong. He doesn't want those he holds most dear to join the long list of people who believe -- or know -- that he has betrayed them.

Must have been having a bad day when I wrote that ;)

I'll say! It's terrifically heartbreaking.

Thanks for the comment. This and the other one were the only ones I couldn't remember posting, so even though it wasn't quite in the spirit of celebrating Clameron, I thought I'd pull them both out on this occasion!

I guess bad days lead to good fic, then. :D

This is just how I like my Clameron, not-so anon. It is angsty with a touch of realism. I know there are some on this meme that hate it when that second word gets used but I am using it now, dammit!

I swear if the Meme ever had any type of fanfic awards and they gave awards for portrayals, your Nick portrayals would have been nominated. :D
