[2/010] [Thought bubbles]

Jul 03, 2009 00:42

[Presea, like so many others, is inflicted with a bubble. Two clocks seem to dominate her thoughts, only briefly replaced by logs and axes, and a picture of a town, before returning again and again. Someone very bright, or paying attention, might notice the two clocks aren't keeping the same time: One is in the late evening, and the other in the ( Read more... )

[he thinks these thought bubbles are an interesting phenomenon, but he's definitely more interested in those clocks he just saw, and his own thought bubbles mirror hers] Something on your mind?

[Her attention is caught by the mirrored clocks, but it is only a match for her own...]

Nothing I need to discuss.

No? They're just two clocks. Clocks don't do any harm at all, not as the physical representations of the passage of time in a certain area. Curious though...I can't help wondering about the second one.

This ship isn't the first time you've encountered a temporal anomaly, is it?

[She barely even moves, the slightest reaction, but her own thoughts, and the accompanying bubble betray her; The red sphere, ever present on her neck.]

...Stop.

[for a brief moment, he actually considers it. however, curiosity has always been one of his strong points--or downfall, depending--and he doesn't let it go. instead, his voice softens when he speaks.]

You can tell me, Presea. Dealing with issues with Time is what I do!

[Her bubble goes, for a moment, just black with anger and sorrow]

My time won't return, this is a law of nature. And my thoughts, my feelings, are my own.

[have a thought bubble of him giving her a hug. he suspected that's what she meant.]

No, you can never earn time back, though people have tried numerous times. But there's no point in getting angry with me over something like these things above our head. Never mind I feel like a walking comic book character. At least what we're saying isn't appearing in a bubble as well.

[She stares at his bubble in confusion, calming down swiftly. The situation was... Frustrating, to say the least. But his questioning wasn't ill-meant, even if the repercussions...]

...I'm sorry. I just don't like this. At all.

What do you mean by dealing with time?

No...I don't either. [he frowns, a storm cloud joining the hugging thought bubble]

It's in my nature. My people dealt with the changes and fluctuations in the natural course of time and when something happens when it shouldn't, like these recursive loops and temporal anomalies, we would handle them--or rather they'd get someone like myself to handle them.

[She hesitates, but the bubble of her thoughts has already revealed what she is thinking about; Two simple figures, one the size of a child- The size of Presea- and the other a full grown woman.]

Could you handle a problem... Where time failed to move for someone?

And would this someone be you?

[She reaches up and fiddles with the sphere, as much to occupy herself as to make their conversation more private. It was possible he would consider her a monster, now, but the chance... Wasn't something she could miss.]

...Yes.

It's...oh, blimey, it's something I've never run into before, in all honesty.

[A frowning, sad face in the bubble]

It was worth a try.
