My dad got Chuckles the Dorling Kindersley Encyclopedia of Animals for her birthday last month. I was leafing through it and discovered that right between "Horses" and "Hummingbirds" there's an entry for "Humans", with the exact same format and neutral, scientific tone as all the other entries. From the FACT BOX:
Habitat: Most land habitats, living in houses and other shelters
Distribution: Worldwide
Food: Animals, plants, and their products
No. of young: 1-2
Lifespan: Up to 100 years

Hee! This is something that we are totally persnicketty about in our house: "animals" and "humans" are not dichotomous categories, and if someone wants to make some statement about non-human animals in general, then they need to *specify* "non-human animals". Yes, we are raising zoology geeks, and I'm glad that DK supports us in our efforts.
