Phanachone said school administrators have told her her college scholarships -- $86,000 at Buena Vista University and more at Iowa State University, if that is her choice -- would disappear.

It seems really weird that these *Universities* would withdraw their scholarships based on the *high school* acting like idiots. (And it really smacks of "idle threat" to me - just another intimidation tactic). Seems like the place to put pressure would be at the Univ. level, because when they still give her the scholarships without having taken the stupid test, the high school administration is going to look even more idiotic than they do right now. Students like Phanachone are exactly what the system is supposed to create and promote. I'm glad she's got legal representation so soon, and I foresee a very satisfying legal smackdown coming.

It would depend on how those scholarships are funded, and what criteria have been stipulated by the funding agency. You wouldn't believe some of the crazy stuff some foundations require.

I think the threat was that they wouldn't give her a diploma in a timely fashion.

But yes, that's exactly what her lawyer should do, is get in touch with the university's admissions dept. After all, one doesn't have to have a high school diploma to go to a university (though the scholarship conditions may vary).

Yes, I read the threat as "We will expel you from school and they'll take away your scholarships," not "The scholarships require that you take this test."
