She picked up a respiratory virus while she was at the vet for her cancer surgery; at first she seemed to be recovering quite well from both the surgery and the virus, but then it turned into a secondary bacterial infection and the poor kitty was just *drowning* in putrid snot. So we put her on antibiotics, and once again she started recovering nicely. Then a week or so later, she suddenly started wandering around the house acting really frantic, with her eyes dilated widely. Then she disappeared under the bed and wouldn't come out for anything, not even stinky canned food. We dragged her out, and her eyes were not responding to light in any way.
So we took her back to the vet, who thought it was probably just the respiratory infection inflaming her optic nerve and making her miserable in other ways. But after another week of antibiotics, steroids, and lysine (a supplement that seems to help cats withstand viruses), she is still hardly eating at all, and she's blind. Now the vet is thinking either stroke/blood clot, or brain tumor.
So we've brought her home for the weekend, and we'll see if we can get her to eat anything. But if she won't eat, it will probably be time to let her go.
