Hikaru had initially told himself to stop counting, but by the eighth day of Yabu getting up to leave the room after spending less than five minutes of being in his presence, he realizes that this is potentially a Major Problem.
So Hikaru gives up on his plan of Ignoring Yabu If He’s Still Ignoring Me (especially after he gets cornered by the rest of JUMP minus Yabu and forced into Doing Something About It Because Damn You Yaotome Shit Is AWKWARD Now) and decides to seek Professional Help. Professional Help meaning begging the seniors for advice.
After a quick process of elimination and cutting out people like Kame (he probably still wasn’t too happy that Hikaru had stumbled in on him and Jin the other day) and Koyama (who would probably blab everything out to Shige and be overheard by Tegoshi who would spread everything to the rest of Johnny’s within 24 hours), Hikaru finally picks out a name from his contacts, dials the number, and listens for the voice to come over the phone.
“Hikari-chan! It’s been a while since you called!”
Hikaru grins. “Na, Aiba-kun, are you free for tea?”
~
“So,” Aiba pauses to take a sip of tomato milk at the little corner café they’ve met at. “What happened?”
Hikaru eyes his own glass of avocado milkshake warily (“But Hikari-chan, vegetable drinks are definitely in fashion nowadays!”), opting for a sigh instead of a taste of the greenish mixture. “Eh well, I think I kind of made Kouta really mad at me.”
Aiba’s eyes go as wide as saucers. “Hah? Yabucchi’s angry? But you’ve been best friends since you were this small!” Aiba lets his hand hover near the ground to signify how young they were when they’d first become friends, and Hikaru decides against telling the older man that No, they weren’t ever that short. “What did you do anyway?”
Hikaru turns a faint shade of pink on recalling the memory. “Ah, I tried to. Um. I kind of.” He flails a little, gesticulating wildly in an attempt to convey his message. Aiba nods patiently. Hikaru takes a deep breath. “WewerewithJumpandhewasbeingverycuteandIkindasortatriedtokisshimbuthepushedmeawayandhasn’ttalkedtomesince.”
Aiba blinks. Hikaru wonders if he’d spoken too fast. “So…Yabucchi’s pissed at you cause you attempted a public display of affection with him?”
Hikaru sighs. “I think so.”
Aiba taps his chin thoughtfully. “Maa, but Yabucchi doesn’t seem the kind to throw away a friendship just because of an excess of loving, ne?”
“Yeah I know, it’s just that I think I may have overstepped a line somewhere,” Hikaru mutters, finally mustering the courage to take a small sip of his shake (and startling at the taste being relatively good).
Aiba heaves a sigh, and pats him warmly on the back. “When you’ve known each other for so long, Hikari-chan, the lines in friendship can be redrawn,” he says sagely, and Hikaru marvels at his sudden bursts of insight. Aiba takes another swig of tomato milk and sets the glass down with a clink.
“I think,” he says slowly. “That Yabucchi will get round to you eventually. The two of you just need to calm down, sort through your feelings, and then sit down and have a nice long chat. Of course, some things would have changed between you, but I’m sure that your love and friendship will pull through. Just figure out what it is you have between each other, ne?” He winks at the younger boy, who smiles back at him.
“Thanks, Aiba-kun. I had a feeling it’d be good to talk to you,” Hikaru sighs, this time with relief. He smiles at his senior. “Aiba-kun certainly is knowledgeable on such matters, ne.”
“Of course!” Aiba grins, clapping Hikaru on the shoulder. “All those experiments with Sho-kun would have had to turn out handy someday.”

The tenth day after what Jump dubs “The Lip Stealer Incident”, things have generally gone back to normal. The thick tension that had initially settled around the group whenever Hikaru and Yabu were in close proximity of each other had faded away, returning them to the usual laughter and banter of Hikaru’s jokes and Yabu’s comebacks, and the carefree casualness of all ten members fooling around with each other.
Still, a few select members know that the situation is not exactly like what it was before. This is after Keito accidentally reads one of Hikaru’s more sensual messages to Yabu, with Daiki later catching the two of them sharing meaningful looks and more “casual, accidental” touches than usual, and then Chinen walks in on Hikaru bent over Yabu, both making odd, breathy noises and moving together in a way that made the Seven member worry for his innocence, and they all kind of figured that the Major Problem had been solved.
