It's nice having kids around for Christmas!

Especially when they're not YOURS.

After I bought the Dora the Explorer cell phone for Kimani, I started thinking about holidays I'd spent as a kid. And how bored I was. And freaked out by the big, strange-smelling people who always wanted to touch me. And about how relieved I was by the toys and the ability to have something to DO that didn't have to involve them.

I shopped. Against my better judgement, I bought a Dora the Explorer Dollhouse. And Dora furniture. For the hosue.

I am opposed to Dora the Explorer. I used to just not be a big fan of hers (I'm more partial to Blue's Clues, or at least before it went all scary-puppet.) but when Diego came on the scene and started rescuing wildlife while Dora was still helping a lost kitten find it's mitten or some such nonsense, I got a little irked.

I guess I'm not the only one, because in my recent Dora ramblings I've seen things like Dora saves the Mermaids. But I'm sorry, you don't bring yourself up in my estimation when you save mythical beasts, and your slightly older male counterpart is still rescuing creatures that actually exist and driving around the wilderness in a range rover!

I digress. I bought the castle dollhouse, and the matchy-matchy furniture because you're only 3 once, and it's Christmas, and I'm gunning for 'favorite aunt'. Or best present, whichever.

And that dollhouse sat on my floor and mocked me. And I eventually came to the conclusion that while I really do want to get her a dollhouse, I don't want to get her the foofy-princess castle Dora dollhouse. Plus, I couldn't find all the furniture. And four and five are just as good an age to get a dollhouse. So next year, I think I'll get her this. And this year, I got her 2 outfits to dress her Cabbage Patch Kid (that my Dad is buying her for christmas) in, and a little tea set, with a teapot that plays -surprise surprise - the teapot song. It's cute. And it's easier to transport. And I'm happier with it than I was with the dollhouse.

But I'm still annoyed that AFTER I returned the dollhouse, I found the furniture collection that I had been missing before. Eh. It's Big Lots. It'll be there again.

rant, lv being silly, shopping, holiday
