Today was beautiful. We went to a place called slipway--it was the beach closest to the guest house. It was so peaceful. The breeze was beautiful. We did not stay long because we needed to go to the University of Dar es Salaam to speak with Professor Kennedy.

He was a very honest man, but some of what he said hurt me. There seems to be many injustices regarding women and homosexuals. My prayer is that equality can be achieved here soon.

Tonight we had our first reflection: Why are we here? Why did we apply for this trip? This is a wonderful way to top off my spiritual journey with SJU. The moments when you have a lump in your throat and you don't know why-- that is when you know God is with you. I've already had moments like this. Simply listening to why everyone wanted to be here gave me a lump. This is going to be an amazing journey.
