nail biting goodness...

So I'm all nervous and junk. I've spent the past 2 months looking at Craigslist almost every day and this coming weekend the hunt is on.

I've posted a "rooms wanted" ad--both on CL and had one put up at MAS SF. I've responded to anything that looks promising with the hopes they'll see me this weekend.

But so far...it's been slim pickings. I'm sure my family and friends are tired of me fussing about finding a place in SF, but it's a big deal to me right now.

If I can find a place this weekend it means two things:
1. I can relax, knowing that when April comes I have a place to be.
2. I can stay in town a bit longer and take my time with the move.

So the big questions are...
1. Roommates vs alone.
2. How much am I willing to shell out?
3. Short term first until I find something permanent...but for how long?
4. How far am I willing to commute?

The answer to #1 is complicated. If I live by myself I get to do as I please. However, I also have to deal with any extra bills (cable/utilities) all by my lonesome. Also...you can get lonely and are more likely to be anti-social. Also you may also end up living in a smaller space (a 3 bedroom apartment will have more space overall per person than a studio).

#2 is pretty simple. I took a loan out for $900/month for rent. I would ideally like to pay less than that. But if I had to (for a really nice apartment) I would pay up to $1100. Now, if I'm living with people I definitely want to pay $900 or less, because you're sharing a space [bathrooms, kitchens etc]. However, if the location, apartment and roomies were well worth it (and my other option is living on the street)...I'll bite the bullet and do it.

#3--I looked into short term. It would be nice to be in the area and have the leisure to really find a place I like. I almost had a perfect short term rental, but I wasn't in town to meet the person subletting. So far, everyone else either wants a LOT of money or it's in the middle of nowhere. So...it's less likely to happen, but I'll keep trying.

#4. In a perfect world, I'd be able to walk no more than 30 minutes to school. But the cheaper places are much further away than 40 minutes. A monthly transit pass is $45, which is additional money for a transit system people seem to bitch a mighty lot about. So...a close proximity is still high priority. Plus...I'm not bringing my car.
All in all...I'll keep you posted on how the search is going.
