I like to think that "unrequited" only stood for his first crush. No matter how JKR slices, Dumbles was old when he kicked it. Plenty of room in there for hot Wizard on Wizard lovin'. Especially considering how dapper he was in his prime.

Oh, yeah. I'm not troubled by her "unrequited" comment so much - it's just that the dead gay character thing, which is kind of the Tragic Mulata de notres jours.

This is true. I find it offset by the fact that it's Dumbledore, and that I felt it was supported by the actual text. Well that and the fact that so many other people died as well. :D

Hmmmm, but in this case the character is the Wise Old Mentor Who Must Eventually Snuff It So That The Hero Must Finally Face The Big Bad Alone, rather than a gay character who died when the plot didn't require it.

True, but to me it's kinda like she took archetype A and retconned it into archetype B. Kinda.

I dunno. I don't want to harsh anyone's buzz about this - hell, I don't want to harsh my own buzz about this! But the elation and the feeling of too-little-too-late are both very real and some of us are feeling them at the same time. It's confusing! But funny! But confusing!
