DW shift?

Sep 04, 2010 08:38

I'm thinking of moving more solidly to Dreamwidth. I've held back because, though I completely support DW and firmly believe we should own the servers, I also want to stay connected with my friends that haven't made the move. However, this latest twitter/facebook debacle makes me deeply uncomfortable. It just shows such a lack of understanding of what people use LJ for, or even how people engage online, and also such a lack of preemptive thinking about what LJ users might prefer... it crosses a line for me that, even if the situation gets resolved and the changes retracted, that line will still have been crossed. Plus, I hate that pingbacks reminder header, as if pingbacks were the second coming. Seriously, I've had enough.

So, I'm planning at this point of cross posting but locking comments at LJ, and at least trying out what that feels like. I guess I'll still read my LJ friendslist, but I'd love to have me DW reading list be a more active, real thing. This leads me to my question--are some of you considering the same transition? Anyone over at DW that I don't have friended yet? Any thoughts on how we could, piece by piece, make DW a more functional replacement? I don't mean what needs to change about DW, because I really respect all the things they've been doing over there, but thoughts on how, on an individual basis, our use of DW could become more real, permanent, and lasting?

For now, I'll keep comments on at LJ so that we can talk about it over there as well as at DW (if anyone is there) but soon I think I'll take the plunge.
