"later" if 7:45 counts as late

Went to the doc earlier this week for a checkup and to talk about getting an IUD. I'd heard iffy things about this doc (gave bad BFing advice) but she's convenient to our house so I went with her anyway. I kind of liked her, she was nice and I felt like she was good at flagging potential problems. She asked me a lot about the fatigue I experience ( Read more... )

I would love to talk more about this since I don't know anyone else who has our problem. =) lutheranchick July 9 2010, 21:56:20 UTC
I don't think we've talked much about the whole progesterone thing before. Did your doctor (are you seeing a specialist?) say that you have low progesterone or that you have an estrogen dominance? Because from what I've researched, it's the same thing.

It's also tricky since low progesterone (can I call it LP?) has almost the exact same symptoms as hypothyroidism. This is why it took me over 9 years to get a real diagnosis and treatment. Ugh, I hate that I was suffering for that long and no one could figure out why. Huge amounts of stress make the whole hormone thing much worse (hooray!) and I've really seen that true looking back at when I felt the worse. But decreasing stress is never easy for anyone.

Since my son was born I've had huge amounts of anxiety (which I've always had a fair amount since I could remember but never sought treatment for) and bouts of depression. Which LP and thyroid can cause both of those. I've found that since taking the natural cream (and natural meds to help me sleep) has really helped those symptoms, but not taken them away.

My doctor upped my progesterone dosage when I last saw him a month and a half ago. He said that I'm already double what he would normally give a person my age (27). My thyroid has swelled 3 times since I started the cream 4 months ago. It was swelling to painful levels 2-6 times a week. Perhaps you could talk to your doctor about a higher dosage? I wrote down every single symptom I could think of that I had before starting the cream (it was a long list and I found lists of symptoms from google and then put them all together) and if it had improved or not and by how much. Then I took that in and said, this is what I can live with and this is what I can't live with. Sleep was a major one. My son was sleeping pretty okay during the night and I was awake for several hours every night. Talk about torture for a mom with a young child, being allowed to sleep but couldn't! The other ones were mental fogginess (which is why I haven't written in my lj for months, I just can't string enough sentences together to make sense) and exhaustion.

I'm sure you've done research yourself about this stuff so I don't mean to imply that you don't know any of this. It's just nice to have a sounding board of someone else who gets how unbelievably awful this lp is and how much it affects a person. I guess I have it pretty severe and was suffering greatly from the side effects.
