there's so many towns I hate

A few months ago, I wheeled and dealed to get some time off around the holidays to spend with my family in Ohio. I was pretty depressed, because I am chronically mildly homesick and kind of regret moving across the country, plus I wasn't even going to get to spend Christmas itself with my sweetheart (the main reason I have stayed on the Left Coast), since he actually gets the holiday week off. But now, thanks to the weather, I am spending Christmas Day (and at least five extra days) here in the Midwest. It remains to be seen whether Billy will make it out of Portland. My travel saga is probably not as dramatic as a lot of people's. I arrived at CMH on Sunday and all flights to PDX and SeaTac were cancelled, but I got a seat on a plane for Monday and everyone seemed optimistic. On Monday, I made it to Minneapolis for my connection and spent a few hours eating and shopping and jaunting around the airport before learning that my flight to Portland was cancelled. After running around to find an airline person, I was told to use their phone bank to contact the offsite reservations folks, who just told me to go to Gate C1 and catch a flight. What they neglected to tell me was that I was on standby, on a 60-plus-person standby list for a full flight. So I called back and yelled at some guy and he put me on a flight for Friday and then I talked to the very nice folks at the gate for the cancelled flight, who sent me back to Columbus free of charge, because I was NOT about to spend four days in Minneapolis, paying for a hotel and/or sleeping in the airport, alone. After four or five more hours there, I left for Cbus and got here without a hitch. Too bad last week was full of family drama and other people's issues and thus I am not in the mood to be patient and live here. Plus my luggage has yet to make it back from Minneapolis. But all in all, best case scenario. (And if Billy makes it out here tonight, we will even get to spend the holiday together!)
