Summary review of The Good Mayor by Andrew Nicoll

Dec 30, 2009 17:01

A beloved professor once taught me that no writing that is cute can ever be good. The Good Mayor starts out by telling us that it takes place in the year ----, in the town of Dot, which lies on the bank of the river Ampersand. Forty pages in we learn that, sweet Jesus, Dot's rival town down the road is called Umlaut. About thirty pages later Nicoll tells us the fishing town that's also a popular vacation spot is called Dash.
It's about like that. (Somehow I finished it anyway, though.)
