I should mention that I think it's fine that the world as a whole is not run by academics. There are benefits to this situation. For example, sometimes things get done in the world. On time, even.
I wonder what the legal reasoning was here. I hope it wasn't that since the illegal marriage category once applied, it always does, since that would rule out every marriage on the grounds that all adults were once children.
I also wonder if it matters what the married couple's sexes were when they got married. If a married man got an op to become a woman, would that nullify the Tennessee marriage ipso facto?
All these questions would be moot, of course, if states did not so tenaciously cling to pretend-traditional marriage.
