Character:Kuroki Meisa
Band/Solo/Ethnicity:Actress/Singer/Japanese
Race:Human/Witch
Occupation:1st year medical resident at New York Downtown Hospital
Character History: Meisa grew up on the west coast of the US, in sunny California where she surfed and generally soaked up the sun as she grew up. As a result of growing up a couple hours from the Mexican border, she can hold a decent conversation in Spanish.
Her mother comes from a family of witches and her dad is a normal human. Though her mom chose not to formally train Meisa and her older sisters in witchcraft, Meisa grew up knowing basic household spells. Then, when she left the comforts of home for college, basic protection spells were frantically taught to her by her mother in the car ride up the Californian coast.
Undeclared as a freshman, Meisa took a variety of classes the first term. She had a roommate who slept all day and seemingly stayed out all night. Due to their differing schedules, it wasn’t until after the winter holidays when she was putting some food into her roommate’s mini-fridge that she realized that she was rooming with a vampire. Though slightly perturbed, Meisa thought that confronting her roommate would be the best course of action rather than having to skirt around the issue the rest of the school year - this was also when she realized that her mother had placed many protection spells upon her person.
This turned out to be a rather fortuitous friendship that formed for Meisa as somehow during the course of the year she became interested in medicine when her roommate sometimes asked her to pick up some blood at the hospital’s blood bank. Perhaps it was the witch blood in her, but to Meisa’s surprise chemistry and organic chemistry were a breeze. Due to taking summer classes, Meisa completed her bachelor’s in 3 years.
Meisa also ended up staying in California for her four years of medical school and decided that she wanted a change of scenery when she did her residency. That’s how she ended up at New York Downtown Hospital as an ER resident.
As she is still paying back student loans she took out for med school, Meisa was lucky to find a relatively cheap studio in SoHo on Sullivan Street near a playground and can even walk to work if she is so inclined and the weather permits. She’s fascinated by the fact that there are proper seasons but is not looking forward to the coldness of winter, her first “real” winter according to her colleagues.
Due to the supernatural rotation Meisa had during her fourth year at med school, she is considering specializing in their emergency care but isn’t sure that she would like to pursue a fellowship at the moment. She doesn’t like to advertise the fact that she’s half-witch, especially since she’s never been formally trained, and prefers that she be known for her skills as a doctor rather than whatever spells they think she may be able to do.
Despite being overworked at the hospital, Meisa’s curiosity and need for exploration forces her out of her studio on her days off. She looks forward to life in New York City.
RP Sample: The slight humidity in the air sent a sweatdrop down Meisa’s back as she yawned into her coffee. Having just finished her morning jog, she wondered what she could do today on her day off. Casting a muttered cooling charm on the scalding hot coffee as she sat on the swing in the playground, Meisa contemplated her options. Thankfully, today was not a day she had to be on-call so she could spend the day wandering around Central Park and maybe pop her head into the Met or the zoo for a bit.
Letting her feet stop swinging, Meisa decided that that’s what she’d do today as a treat to herself. After working several 12 hour shifts in a row, she felt that she deserved it. Who knew when she would have another chance at an on-call free day to do whatever she wanted?
Maybe today she could squeeze in a little shopping as well, Meisa thought as she warmed up her now cold coffee, chugged it down, and headed to her apartment to change and enjoy her day off.
