Master Blaster (Jammin')

My right arm is completely black and blue from needle jabs. My left arm was the subject of electrical shocks by biomedical engineers.

Explanation
So on Friday, I went at the beginning of G block to help community service run the blood drive. I figured missing fashion and design was no big deal. Little did I know that it would be almost 2.5 hours until I finished. So I waited there drinking raspberry grape punch, talking with Andy, Tasha, Sarah, Mimi. I really didn't want to miss physics because as boring as it is, I really need all the help I can get in that subject. I was going to walk into class a few minutes late and tell Finn that I had to leave later on to give blood. But then I would be interrupting class twice and plus I didn't know when I should go back, so I just stayed. When it was finally my turn, I was so nervous. All the Red Cross people were really nice though, and we talked about why becoming a doctor is so hard yet so good, how lacrosse is sometimes a really annoying game, and why donating blood was so necesssary. They were required to ask a million questions like "Have you ever had sex? Have you ever been to Africa? Have you ever had sex with an African?"

Finally I went up. I have no blood circulation, so I asked the woman if I should do jumping jacks to get my blood flowing. She laughed, but I was totally serious. It was supposed to take 10 min on avg. It took me 25 min. The woman couldn't find the artery or vein, but she stabbed anyway, kinda wiggled the needle around for a few minutes. Then she called over another doctor for help because no blood was coming out. He had to take it out and start again. Finally they found it, but the blood was coming out so slowly. They kept telling me to squeeze this foam thingy, but still, barely any blood. I don't think they even took the full amount they were supposed to because near the end my blood flowed at slower rate into the pouch. They were going to try my left arm, but then figured it wasn't worth it. So then afterwards, I was supposed to wait 15 min so they could make sure people didn't faint. I managed to sneak away after waiting 5 min because I was hungry and sick of the auditorium.

Then after school I went to Mr. Finn to tell him why I didn't come to class, explaining that I had donated blood. He said "wellll, it's still an unexcused" WTF, when people help other people by donating their blood, you excuse them! Then he asked me if I had my lab. What does having a lab have anything to do with it? I told him I'd get a note as evidence, as if my arm weren't evidence enough. So then I ran all the way back to the auditorium and back, knowing I was late for practice, to get a note from Ms. Gordon. When I got back, he'd left. fjq2p4tjq'pgnl;kbnoerjyoregjypoi[tpoinmvbnmX:otjy

So coach made me and Emily Kessler sit out of the 3-mile run because of the blood thing. I was annoyed because I felt absolutely fine, and I'd missed the past few runs because of physics mondays. Afterwards, I was glad I hadn't because when we did tiny drills in the rain I felt kinda dizzy. Then I went to Tamar's, met up with Emily, Kelton, Andy, Alex, and watched some Daily Show and Indian music video and Fat Dutch singing at Andy's house. His house is cool- it has k'nex and a cool blue stability ball! Tamar lost her temper and started throwing pillows at people and plants. Revenge for our wreckage of her basement I guess. ;) Then I had to leave early so I could wake up for UConn open house.

UConn had a beautiful campus! But I couldn't enjoy it properly because it was raining and cold. My dad kept nagging me about not bringing enough clothes and not being prepared. I've decided to go into biomedical engineering. I can finally learn how to make things, this field helps people, this field is awesome, I can get enough credit for pre-med, I can become a doctor or not because this field has so many options. I volunteered to have shocks put through my arm to see it twitch. My reaction is so warped, I don't know if it's the myelin in my nerves or that I'm always cold, but they had to increase the voltage more than "normal" to get my hand to twitch. That was kinda embarassing. Then some seniors showed me some of their projects- like a device for blind diabetics that read their blood pressure aloud; a glove that helped paralyzed people grip things. At the club fair I got a ton of freebies- rulers, pens, pencils, candy, bandaid dispenser, and a RUBBER DUCKIE! How awesome is that? The idea of UConn is starting to grow on me. So what if it's not an Ivy, and instead of studying people would rather run around naked and painted in blue... I'm in the honors program, the people are friendly and not stuck-up, the campus is gorgeous, my family can't drop by unexpectedly. Go HUSKIES! (but still, Harvard: pick me, pick me)
