Roger Rabbit, Harry Brice, and Coincidences...
So...I've posted the hand drawn picture of Roger Rabbit done by silhouette cutter Harry Brice (I thought his last name was Price), and couldn't remember all the details of the encounter. So while I was at the park I inquired about him. I was told that he had retired about 13 years ago and only recently passed away. So...a-googling I did go, and I came up with this obituary:
"Harry W. Brice III Former Washington resident worked for Disneyland
Harry W. Brice III, 74, of Grand Terrace, Calif., died Saturday, September 5, 2009, in Loma Linda, Calif., following a lengthy illness.
He was born November 2, 1934, in Washington, a son of Harry and Mary Laws Brice. Mr. Brice graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and served in the Navy from 1953 to 1955. He worked at Disneyland in California for 20 years, as a silhouette cutter."
So...the bit that caught my eye was that he was born on the same day as me. I think, perhaps we had gone to the park on or around my birthday (maybe thanksgiving?); I had seen him working on the drawing (had to be after 1988 when the movie came out), and had remarked on it. I'm guessing I had said it was my birthday and he said it was his as well, so he gave me the drawing. Of course, I can't be sure that any of this is true. Since I have very few memories from when I was young.
So honestly it had to be less than 20 years ago 'cos in 88 I would have been turning 20. I'll have to think about this further 'cos it could have been when I was living down there with Brett.
I am a bit sad that he passed away before I could meet with him again. I know there are cast members at the park who can never be replaced (like maynard). I would love to become one of them. Soon...some day soon.
