yes...i got sucked into it...
i had told myself that i wouldn't watch the one ring circus today, but when mariah carey sang i'll be there...that just got me hooked.
it was really hard for me to watch because she has such a beautiful voice and to hear her start to crack because she was about to cry...**sigh**
then queen latifah reading maya angelou's letter...that again...just beautiful.
the last thing i saw was jennifer hudson singing will you be there:
i loved the dancers in the background doing the sign language. everything about this memorial was beautiful except...al sharpton.
al sharpton pissed me off. he kept saying how michael brought everyone together. as if he was the one who gave black people their voice...as if he was the one who made it possible for the whole world to work together. as if he was effing saint michael. he wasn't a saint. he was a human being. he wasn't the one who gave black people their voice. that title would go to Doctor Martin Luther King thankyouverymuch. michael was nothing compared to that man...and he should never be compared to him. another thing that al sharpton said was that we are the world came before live aid. well...in that he is wrong. the british pop stars did it first with the song do they know it's christmas time well before we are the world was written. for those of us who know history...they did it first and that fact should always be remembered.
ok...i'll stop. but seriously...who the hell is al sharpton to raise MJ on such a high platform as if he is a god. he's not. he was a singer and song writer. he was a father and a brother. he was all that...but a god he was not. he was merely a human being and he will be remembered for his songs and for all the crap that was written about him. but for me..he will always be remembered for his music.
michael...you will be missed, but your boat sailed long ago, and sadly...it's the rough waters you'll be remembered for.
