Well, about 3 weeks ago I would say I was as usual going to the supermarket to get some food.. or else I'll starve.. when I noticed this little Christmas tree with a bunch of notes in it.. The first thing that went through my mind was... "who would decorate a christmas tree with little pieces of paper"..
as I approached.. I noticed it was notes from children from an orphanage, with their names and their christmas wishes. You could only see from the outside the gender and age. The thing is, you (if you wanted too of course) picked one of those notes and just go and buy one of the gifts in the note and return it to the supermarket by Dec. 17th. So I went ahead and picked one up..(boy - 11).
Began to read it, his name was Junior P., 11 years old, Miami Heat Fan, and loves to play chess. On his wish list was a bunch of stuff I really had no idea what were they.. and in a weird way it kinda reminded me of mom's headaches when christmas approached and she didnt knew what was half of the stuff I wanted. I saw Spy Kit, I saw Hot Wheels Cars and Tracks, Teck Deck Set... So basically I felt like a mom trying to get toys for her son.
I went to Kay-Bee Toys on a shopping spree for the kid.. and really I was totally lost... I mean when was the last time I asked for toys? that was like probably 15 years ago, just because I always hated Barbie and dolls and was more into electronics, computers and video games. Anyways never found the Teck Deck Set, or a nice spy kit for the kid.. at least I found Hot Wheels Stuff.. I spent like 45 minutes there trying to figure out what an 11 year old boy would really like.. and since I had no idea I ended up picking up 3 sets of tracks and cars and stuff... Next day a bought a beautiful Disney-themed gift wrap.. wrapped it up.. and yesterday night I took it to the supermarket. When I was leaving an employee approached and asked me if the gift was for the kids.. i just said yeah.. and she was just excited and thanking me for that, that I dont know how much that means to those kids.. I just felt really good when she said that.. after all christmas is a time for giving, and why not spend what I had for my gift on a boy who probably wont have any other gift in the whole year or who knows if he'd never had a gift just for him at all.. I just hope he likes it..
And what better gift for me now to just know that im making a boy happy :-)
