It's all too horrifying. Even if Biden pulls it off, he'll be hamstrung by the Senate. We'll get a four-year reprieve in which we might not make things worse (or too much worse), but the pause will be only temporary. The people who revel in Trump and Johnson are not going away; they WANT what these clowns represent. There are millions upon millions who will continue to vote for any outrageous candidate who stokes their rage and panders to their worst impulses.

I wish I could find something to distract us with, but I just can't right now. I have been refusing to engage with politics since I voted in early October; I've been determinedly focusing on other things, because I had done what I could and just couldn't take any more stress and anxiety.

But now I need to face the disaster head-on. The "blue wave" did not happen and is not going to happen, at least not in the foreseeable future, not in the US or the UK (whatever color your progressive wave would be) or much of Europe. I need to accept that my country is essentially a hostile occupied territory and make plans accordingly.
