Top 5 books of 2015

I thought this might be a fun post, especially since I love other people’s book review/rec posts but am terrible at making them myself.

Below is a list of the (shockingly few) books I read in 2015. They were all recommended or by authors I already knew I liked so I actually liked all of them; Frost didn’t get me to buy the next book in the series ( Read more... )

As a lover of Gothic fiction I'm really interested in Cuckoo Song sounds good to me. Googling it...

CUCKOO SONG. Somehow a bunch of what I said got disappeared but I've re-added it to the post. IT'S SO GREAT. The family dynamics and the reverberations of grief and the relationships between women. ADORE.

The Dark is Rising series is one of the most loved book series I read as a teen. I re-read them every once in a while and can't wait to pass my books on to my daughter. :) My favourite is its name giver. As an only child I was so fascinated by Will's huge family.
Oh, and there are fics. Not many, but I remember one in particular. Tell me if you're interested and I'll search my bookmarks... :)

Oh yeah, totally! I have to be in a specific mood for fic of my childhood's books but I've heard Yuletide often gives us some nice fic. And I love Will's family!!

They all sound interesting! Thanks for sharing your list.
Reading books has become a challenge - there are always so many fics to read that there never seems to be enough time left to read books on top...

TOO TRUE, I read well over 100 books a year I think - 2 or 3 a week - before I discovered fanfic :D

Same here. Before I discovered fanfiction it would have never happened for a book to lie around unread for months which is now more often the case than not... Damn fanfiction! ;)

COLLAPSE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE NON-FICTION BOOKS EVER! Really, it affected how I look at life so fundamentally. How did the Polynesian cutting down THE LAST TREE on Easter Island feel about what he was doing, indeed! And how everyone talks about the tribal conflict in Rwanda- but nothing motivates a lot of machete murder like over-crowding and diminishing resources dressed up as tribal pride to console people that they're not barbarously killing just in a competition for resources.

This list doesn't look "shockingly few." I'm embarrassed now- this is some really impressive reading for 2015. Great descriptions too- you've made your top books sound super-interesting.

GOD RIGHT. My mind was blown multiple times.

It's not shockingly few for people in general!!! Just for me. And thank you :D That is because they are.
