Friday recs post: tears more familiar than they should be

Dec 12, 2014 11:11

This is mostly links I’ve saved over the past few months while failing to actually make a damn recs post with them :) But hey, good fanworks are evergreen.

Harry Potter fic

Last Man Standing by hiddenhibernian. OCs; ~1250 words; PG. Summary: Will the last wizard in the United Kingdom please turn out the lights.

This is a really original idea in a well-explored fandom, and it's incredibly well-done. The voice is really strong, and I love the quiet dystopia of it. The last line is perfection.

Harry Potter art

Sight, Touch, Scent by Anonymous. Harry/Draco; NC-17.

I love their position, and Draco's head thrown back, and how they’re holding onto each other. This is such a good example of how something immediately becomes super-hot if it conveys the desire the characters are feeling for each other.

Not Quite Human by sylvaticginger. Voldemort; G. Summary: In the winter forest of Albania, Voldemort bides his time.

This is really shiver-inducing and cool.

In Love And War by Anonymous. Harry/Draco; PG. Summary: I imagined Draco as an aristocratic heir in France during World War 2, and Harry a young, English soldier, alone and in hiding behind enemy lines.

This is so beautiful. I love the light and shadows, and their body language, and the kiss!

A Prayer by dustmouth. Harry/Draco; G. Summary: Harry Potter finds Draco Malfoy in the Remains of the Room of Requirement.

dustmouth’s art is as feels-inducing as ever, and this is a perfect bit of post-war Harry/Draco. Especially how Harry's being all comforting and not crying and then he's the one to grab Draco in a hug.

Potter and the Pea by dustmouth. Harry/Draco; PG-13. Summary: The Malfoys are putting Draco's suitors to the pea test. Harry Potter is just trying to do his job.

This is impressively long and all so well-done and detailed, in wonderfully expressive style. The angry confrontation where emotion spills over and there’s hot, aggressive kissing is FABULOUS. And Narcissa! Her glares at Draco, her perfect hair and outfit, she's so great! Hermione and Ron too. And the story is adorable.

This city doesn’t belong to us by Anonymous. Harry/Draco; G. Summary: Engineer Harry Potter has called on Wizard Draco Malfoy to help him get to and salvage some old machinery beneath their city. If only they'd pay as much attention to their surroundings as they do to each other....

I’m not generally a steampunk person at all but I find this enormously charming. I love the palette, their expressions, and the fantastically evocative title.

Moving Forward by anemonen. Harry/Draco; G. Summary: Harry sees Draco every day on the train and wants to get to know him.

I really like this. The hands, the eyes, and the light behind them in that last image. Plus of course it's terribly lovely and poignant to have them rediscover each other and make a new start on a train.

White Collar fic

Happy Birthday (Watching You Watching Me) by
angelcaffrey. Neal/Keller, Neal/Peter, El/Peter; ~2600 words; NC-17; exhibitionism, voyeurism. Summary: Peter wasn't expecting a birthday gift when staking out Caffrey's apartment. Set pre- Season One.

This is really hot, and strikes me as really IC for Neal.

Contractual Obligations: A Love Story In Three Traffic Lights by
shaenie. Peter/El/Neal; ~56 700 words. Explicit. Summary: The way Neal says it, though, amused and dismissive, is almost insulting. Of course Peter would never do such a thing, Neal's tone implies. Absurd notion.

It’s basically made of Emotional Conversations and hot smut, with a delicious focus on the Neal/El of it all. (I love the Neal/El of it all and there’s rarely, if understandably, much that’s just-them.) The whole threesome is gorgeous, of course. I really like how Peter and El have so much history, all these rituals worked out over time and negotiated, now implicitly-understood boundaries, and Neal is all WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE I DON’T UNDERSTAND. (Said boundaries also lead to some of the most scorching and D/s-inflected sexual tension I’ve ever read, which is another bonus.) I haven’t read this fic before, which is super-weird because it’s one of the big ones in the fandom and I’ve vaguely intended to a few times, BUT I’M SO GLAD I DID NOW BECAUSE IT’S WONDERFUL. Even if I, more than once, felt united with Neal in staring at Peter and El in horror going you did that for him are you completely crazy no one should have to do that. That’s part of the charm. :)
