Friday recs post: stand and deliver

It’s funny how themes tend to appear in my recs posts. This week: sad drabbles, long Marvel fic, and weird Potter porn.

Harry Potter fic

Worship at the Root by tryslora. Draco/tree, Draco/Neville; ~3400 words; NC-17. Summary: Draco finds the most absolutely perfect prick he has ever seen… it just so happens to be attached to a tree.

This is wonderfully weird in the way only HP porn can be :) And who doesn’t love sizequeen!Draco? I love the premise, and how Draco’s obsession grows, and OMG it is really, really hot. And then some unexpected heartsqueezey moments that make me really hope this Draco and Neville work out.

Sometimes It Takes A Dragon by mindabbles. Charlie plus Harry/Draco; 4000 words; NC-17; voyeurism. Summary: Charlie wants to see them together and he's tired of waiting.

Charlie is helping teach the Aurors about dragon evasion and he pushes at Harry and Draco to make them get over their stubbornness and actually fuck :D His POV is really fun, and the fic is blazingly hot -- I love that Charlie gets the chance to direct, and sub!Harry.

A Moment by inell. Neville gen; ~300 words; G. Summary: A moment in Neville’s life.

This is lovely and sweet and quietly really sad. Also super poignant: He knows rats and cats are popular, that’s why there are so many of them, but Neville’s not likely to be popular himself, so he thinks a toad might suit him.

Enough by Anonymous. Argus Filch; ~200 words; G. Summary: Being a squib is difficult...except one day a year.

I know it’s Filch fic, but it’s just 200 words and a great example of what can be accomplished with that. Also SUPER SAD.

Harry Potter art

All Mine by Anonymous. Harry/Draco; PG. Summary: Behind every star there is a shadow.

This is wonderfully sinister and ambiguous, and beautifully done.

MCU fic

Ask Me No Questions by
alex54321. Loki, Thor, Bruce, Jarvis, Tony plus the other Avengers gen; ~55 000 words; Teen. Summary: When Thor returns from Asgard to rejoin the Avengers, he brings Loki in tow--stripped of his magic and bound with a geas that allows him to speak only in response to direct questions. AKA, yet another "Loki lives with the Avengers; chaos ensues" story.

I really like this Loki -- he’s not woobified, and he’s not overpowered but he’s never truly helpless. I like that Clint’s particular rage at Loki is given space to breathe without him being written as a villain (even if this is very much Loki’s story) and everything about Bruce, especially his medical ethics, and how Thor, if written as less intelligent than I like, is not stupid, and never gives up in his attempts to reach Loki. (Surrender is not in his nature. ♥) For something that is generally very much not idfic, despite the Loki-can-only-speak-the-truth premise, it’s become comfort-fic for me: something I reread on a quiet autumn Sunday.

Whisper by mikkeneko. Thor/Loki; ~6900 words; Mature. Summary: Loki is hypersensitive to the slightest touch. He was in the Void for so long, and in unfriendly hands for so long, that he's completely forgotten what good touch feels like, and he gets an extreme reaction to even a soft brush against his back or arms.

This is really sad, really lovely hurt/comfort. I love this Thor -- and God, he’s trying so hard, it hurts me -- and the premise is genius.

light up dark rooms (or lighten dark ones) by
mikkeneko. Thor & Loki gen; ~2300 words; Teen. Summary: In all the Nine Realms, there are very few that would come to aid and comfort Loki Laufeyson. But there is at least one.

This is really wonderful - beautifully written, lovely hurt/comfort, and I love its commentary on the Loki/Thor dynamic.

Solve for X by
RC_McLachlan. Loki/Tony plus the team, ~17 400 words, unrated. Summary: "All right, Rudolph. Find X," Stark says, tossing his empty soup bowl down and bringing up another pseudo-screen of light, tapping rapidly on it. He slides the image over, fingers pinning it down to the table, trapping naught but air and offering it as an olive branch. Whatever darkens Stark's eyes when their gazes meet is not pity, not blame, and there are drops of onion soup in his ridiculous beard.
Loki slowly reaches over to tap the little X that is revealed once Stark lifts his thumb away, and says, "I found it."

This occasionally justifies Loki in ways that I find irritating, but it’s all in Loki’s POV and Tony’s projecting, so I can deal. There’s a great little Natasha moment, and I like Loki discovering maths and how he and Tony connect over it. And the prose is sometimes genuinely lovely.

Son of Man by
copperbadge. JARVIS and Tony + Pepper, Jane and the Avengers gen; ~36 400 words; Teen; body dysmorphia. Summary: JARVIS did not want to be a real boy. He was quite happy being a building.

Aw, poor JARVIS. This fic is a rough read at times (despite a happy ending) because his magical transformation into a human (which is not a trope I have any interest in generally) is so NOT what he wants or what’s right for him. But it’s got some really lovely hurt/comfort moments. I have particular love for the Tony/Pepper dynamic in this one -- Tony suggesting they go and get laid while ‘the kid’ was hanging out with his friends made little cartoon hearts fly off my head.
