Oh the world will sing of an English king a thousand years from now

Yay! Am feeling more positive about Twelve after the Robin Hood episode. I was pretty eyeroll-y for the first ten minutes because it felt like such an enormous Blackadder rip-off - like seriously, I could watch Back and Forth to see Robin Hood do the masculine grunting and it's funnier too. Plus Clara standing there watching was... on the one hand it was a fairly practical approach but it was also annoying because it felt like she just hadn't been given something to do? And I felt similarly later when Clara and the Doctor stand and watch Robin fight the Sheriff and only go off to save England when he's finished.

BUT for all my complaining I liked the Doctor much better in this one. He wasn't a dick to anyone he had power over, and his dickishness was played for comedy instead of Grimdarkness. His conversation with Robin about being an inspirational story being better than a truthful history, and the value of story and mythic heroes - and in the not-terribly-subtext, of being a British pop culture icon... Idk, it fell rather flat for me, partly because it was so on the nose, but I think another day I might really love it.

A lot of obvious gags but I liked them. And I'm just so relieved to have not said 'FUCK YOU DUDE' to my laptop at any point while watching. Yay for actually liking Twelve!
