There is a sale at J&R.com. You can get a Technics turntable for $40.00.
Now, I recently got a new receiver with the increasingly rare to find phono jack output.
I have a turntable that's about 15 years old, but I haven't had it hooked up to anything for about 10 years.
Being the cheap person that I am, I decided to see if my old turntable still works.
And it does!
So far, I've listened to:
a Batman Power Book and Record set,
"Janey, Don't You Lose Your Heart", by some guy that gets booed all the time
"Could We Start Again Please," from the original Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar
"Somebody To Love" from the American Pop soundtrack.
I'm currently listening to "American Pie" by Don Mclean.
WHat do I listen to next? Blondie? The Motel? "AGainst All Odds" soundtrack? Or maybe "Miami Vice?" How about my Chrissie Hynde interview picture disc? Maybe I'll make copies of Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark?"
Why the hell do I own a 45 of Bryan Adam's "A Reggae Christmas."
I actually find the vocals on vinyl records to be more crisp. Maybe it's just me.
Vinyl rules!!!
Actually, that's not true. So far I've scratched one album because I forgot to raise the needle on the turntable arm...and it's a bugger when you want to play any track but the firsy track and you have to line up the needle to the space between tracks and your hand slips and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....there's a new scratch on the record.
...and sometimes those CRACKLE and POPS can be annoying....
...and those skips....
