Loki

Had a traumatic weekend! We thought Loki had a stroke yesterday. She collapsed, & couldn't move her legs. Her mouth was open & sagging, her tongue was hanging out, & her gums were blue. Mum phoned the vet, & he was already on a house call at Chatswood, & had 2 more calls he had to make before he could get to us. We tossed up taking her to another vet briefly, but decided against it, as we thought the stress might finish her off.
So we laid her on the sheepskin rug in fromt of the heater & took turns laying with her & talking to her. She would try & pick herself up every now & again, but couldn't move her legs. Then she was sick everywhere.
Then after about an hour & a half she managed to sit up, & pulled her tongue in, & her mouth went back to normal. Another half hour on & she walked of & started to walk up the stairs to go back to bed! I carried her up & put her on the bed.
Today she seems fine, but she's weak & keeping very quiet, & can't jump on the bed herself.
The vet rang back at about 6pm (we'd originally called him at about 2), & asked if we still wanted him to come. I think he expected us to say she was dead. Mum told him what had happened, & he thinks she might have had an epileptic fit, in which case he said she's very lucky as they don't usually survive.
He's going to come & collect her tomorrow (Monday) morning, & take her for blood tests.

Mum was pissed off at a couple of the aunties. They hinted that we should have her put down. I mean, if the vet says she's in any pain or anything, then of course we will! But otherwise, she may be 21 years old but she's one of the family.
