There was a muted rumbling and Daniel threw himself at his companion, rolling them both out of the way of the wall as it collapsed a mere few feet from their heads.

“Isn’t this backwards?” Jack cocked a dusty eyebrow and Daniel rolled his eyes.

“He says to the guy who took a staff blast for him after only knowing him a handful of days.”

Jack shrugged.  “I mean, it’s just it’s usually me pushing you away from collapsing walls and all.  I’ll admit there are a few exceptions.”

Daniel glared and started to shift his weight off the colonel.  “I hate it when you pretend like you need to baby me, you know.”

Jack put a hand out and pulled the archaeologist back again, a wicked gleam in his eyes.  “I know just how much you hate it, baby.”

Daniel flushed and glanced furtively around to make sure the rest of the team was still out of hearing distance, then recovered himself and his gaze traveled over the way Jack was still pinned beneath him.  He bent low over the colonel, lips grazing Jack’s temple, and whispered, “I’ll get you back for that later, schatje.”

He pushed off and dusted himself and his notes carefully, then looked back over his shoulder and grinned at the glazed look on Jack's face.

“Let me guess,” Jack let Daniel pull him up as Teal’c and Carter appeared through the trees.  “'Baby'?”

Teal’c never did find out just what about the collapse of Daniel Jackson’s current research project put such a smile on the archaeologist’s face.
