This has to be the best Daniel fic ever. EVER. The words, the plot- the pure beauty. And i don't even need to say which line is my favorite, but I'll say it anyway. That last sentence boggles my mind. Absolutely terrific!

Thank you for the generous feedback! I wasn't actually really sure what I thought of this one when I was done with it, so I'm glad to hear it appealed to someone. In the end, I chickened out and used the Heliopolis fic instead for fignewton's Alphabet Soup, but it's gratifying to know someone came by to read this one!

(I was playing with Daniel's ideas about history, and being remembered, given that so much of what he is and does involves examining the lives of people long gone. Naturally he'd have some thoughts about what he'd leave behind. I'm not convinced I worked it through to my satisfaction, so even though I like this work, I may end up visiting this theme again.)

As I love this story so much I too the liberty of doing two things. One was to rec it on my LJ, the other was to actually write out what Daniel wrote as, being a hobbyist in hieroglyphs, I wanted to see what it looked like on paper.

And I love your translation--sadly, my languages are limited to Latin and French, with a sampling of Flemish/Dutch and a few Welsh phrases. Hieroglyphics have always been on my list but never quite made it to the top. *wry grin* Thank you for the explanation!

SG1 does not do enough with the Egyptian languauge, and when it does they do some very strange things indeed. I translated the stuff he says in Serpents Song and Forever in a Day back into Middle Egyptian (its good practice and adds to my vocabulary) but I am still scratching my head on it.

Your fiction definitely needed recing, not many people understand who Daniel really is. TPTB have forgotten where he came from recently, and Season nine / ten? Well I liked the Merlin stuff (he looks cool and sexy as a prior!) but as a Brit who spends a lot of time at Glastonbury (just come back from a few days there) its a bit of a cheek in what they have done.
