Race: Does Loki really care?

Nov 12, 2011 12:01

I've recently noticed some bickering that has befallen upon some Asatru groups regarding race and ethnicity. Some people say that Asatru should be for "whites"/people with European heritage ONLY, and others are saying that people of all races and ethnicity should be able to be Asatru.
I personally think, that the decision isn't even up to us, but ( Read more... )

asatru, heritage, loki, race

Going against the grain.

Does Loki care, no. But when has Loki ever cared about appearances, other then as a convenient way to get laid, or get something he wanted. Appearances are tools.

Do the other Asatru Gods care. Ask them, but it can be argued a maybe. Why? Blood, I believe, some pattern or other in the blood.

Is it just asshat Asatru racists who care, no. You want to know more about this, then look beyond just the racist arguments and look deeper.

More then likely the ancients didn't run into this question. But there are coherent arguments to be made on BOTH sides. It doesn't automatically make someone a racist fox. The ones who do argue that, are often the racists, but not always.

Fox, I'm sorry but your taking that to an extreme. Saying you should be of x ancestry to worship x Gods is not racism. If it's perfectly legit for other cultures, and not just the white ones, to say that, then its perfectly legit for Asatru to say it.

ENOUGH!!!!

You do not get to yell, rant or rave at me. Nor will I sit quietly as you point the racism finger at people who are not comfy, for reasons of their own, that may have nothing to do with thinking they are better then another race, with having someone of another ancestry worshiping in their faith.

You will get ahold of yourself. You WILL stop yelling at me. You will not disrespect me, because you can't accept an argument that you don't like. You are an adult, pray tell start FUCKING ACTING LIKE ONE.

Then don't let the door hit ya, where the good lord split ya. I will not be yelled at, because you refuse to take the time to read what I believe. I will not be disrespected, condemend because you are having an emotional temper tantrum and refuse, utterly refuse to accept that I will tolerate others pov and will not stand idly by, while others are slammed because they may not conform to what YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH.

You are acting like an asshat. You are coloring anyone that will not accept anyone into their tribe, faith with the racist brush, because you refuse to look deeper then the meany pooh pooh head area.

Feel free to message me, when you aren't roaring for the sake of roaring. It is not ok, how you are acting toward me and I will not take it from you or anyone else. I don't deserve it.

If you look at the people the Æsir work with, they are definitely NOT of "pure" white ancestry.
The gods may pay attention to certain bloodlines (i.e.: family lines), but it's about talents and usefulness and not race.
As foxesdaughter said, the Vikings inter-married with other races, had slaves of different races who they got children with, and slaves could become free and marry into the society.
So, the "pure whiteness" of ones Viking ancestors are highly questionable in the first place.
Also, Viking traders might've had affairs with women all over the place where they went to trade, so it's quite reasonable to think that there are descendants belonging to bloodlines that might be of interest to the Norse gods in places like Africa, India and North America.

At what point did I say pure white ancestry. I said that ancestry may matter to the Gods. Not to LOKI, but to the Aesir.

When the Asatruers talk about ancestry, they mean Nordic/Germanic, i.e.white and unmixed.

Ancestry may matter in some cases to the gods, since talents seem to be inherited, but race doesn't matter.

Just because when they talk about ancestry, it usually means Caucasian, doesn't mean it's racist. That's like saying when the Zulu talk about ancestry they mean African and black.
